How to improve "Arms Appropriation"

I originally kept this on my tumblr, and off the forums. However it received good feedback on tumblr, and Tevokkia said that they actually mentioned it on "The Arsenal." So I decided I'd post my suggestion here. For the raw version, go here: http://sk-diarist.tumblr.com/post/39634502998/how-to-improve-arms-approp...

==How to improve 'Arms Appropriation'==
There are about three out of three million players in the game that actually do/did this mission for the prestige due to their obscene amounts of money and ability to not care. However ‘Arms Appropriation’ gives about the same prestige as Deluxe Supply Pack missions or 5* Mats + other Mats missions for a whole lot more being lost.

So honestly, how do we improve this for the general public? Well it’s simple, really.

    - Change the mission objective. As opposed to giving up the weapon, it simply checks that you have it in your inventory, and gives you the prestige for being well equipped.
    - This could redefine ‘Arms Appropriation.’ ‘Appropriation’ by definition means ‘the use of pre-existing objects or images with little or no transformation applied to them.’ The fact that the weapon is disappearing from your inventory, is a pretty huge ‘transformation’ in context.
    - The mission description could be something like; “Knights who are ill-equipped to face the dangers of the Clockworks have a hard time dealing with the onslaught of monsters. That’s why Spiral HQ checks to see if Knights have the right gear for the right situation. Show Spiral HQ that you’re ready to face any challenge the Clockworks has to throw at you!”
    - Reduce Prestige given to 60.

==How this will benefit people==

    - Weapons are not being given up to invisible, nameless NPC’s.
    - Prestige is not missed out on, simply because someone can't give up a 5* weapon.
    - Anyone can participate without having to break their back (if they chose to do so with the original ‘Arms Appropriation’).
    - Entices people to collect more weapons/expand weapon collections. Thus giving some players something to do.
    - Less CE and potentially; time, wasted. This is not a proper CE sink. This is just stupid.
    - Weapon can be potentially put to good use, or sold later if it’s not wanted.

You really can’t say this isn’t a good idea, because it is. There’s nothing to defend about the current ‘Arms Appropriation.’ It’s terrible, and it’s stupid, and it’s stupid, and it’s terrible. I know not a soul that has actually done this, or that would ever be willing to do this.

For those who care about equipment they build from baby 2*/3* items having to sell it to slavery for prestige is a bitter exchange when it comes to 4*+ equipment unless you can afford to reproduce those items with ease. Part of this game is increasing your arsenal variety by obtaining more weapons, armor, shields, and equippable items in general; not to sell it to feed your ego through prestige.

I completely agree it should only check if you have the item instead of taking it from you. You could have started in the forums with that if you wanted and still have my support.

To push my luck a few steps further, have it inspect multiple items which suit a theme but not exclusively to a specific item. For a few examples:

  • Sudaruska/Triglav, Ironmight/Volcanic Plate set (both helmet and torso of the same set)
  • GFaust and Chaos/Fallen set
  • DAvenger and Valkyrie/Divine set
  • any 5* Alchemer, Nameless set
  • any 5* Autogun, Shadowsun set
  • any 5* Vaporizer, Volcanic Demo set
  • any 5* Blast, Mad Bomber/Bombastic set
  • Leviathan/Vanquisher, Valiance, Azure Guardian set
  • Dread Venom/Wild Hunting, Skolver/Vog Cub set

And much more! Buy now and get triple the off- What the liquids am I doing, cut that out.

I have an idea that kind of goes in a completely different direction. Instead of having to supply the weapon, the spiral order has just asked you to deliver a weapon to a certain area. There would be two floors, like normal prestige missions, the key difference being you can only use the weapon(s) the order has supplied you with. You obviously would not keep the weapon.

This would provide incentive for people to try out new weapons, instead of shouting "craft with energy to get a bigger e-peen" into their faces. I personally think this would actually increase the amount of energy sunk by making players want to craft new items. Just make sure the actual floors don't yield any net gain.

It is indeed true that it would cost you an arm and a leg for an amount of prestige, also achievable by doing danger missions and normal prestige missions, that does not seem worth it's cost. An alternative mission would suit it.

Oat's idea sounds interesting, but could be a bit difficult; for example, if you got told to deliver a Shivermist Buster or Venom Veiler, how exactly would you run the mission? As great as they are, they're... not exactly great damage-dealing weapons. More on the support line of things.

Doctor's idea sounds good, though. Certainly more reasonable than asking people to splash out on 5* items for prestige.

i already saw in this mission Voltedge and... well... waste 30~(digit your value here)k on something than still can't be used is not helpful

and i agree Oatmonster about create a section on missions to use the weapon to be delivered, at least players can have a good sense of how it is in case you want to craft in future, besides still have the problem of prestige points having no utility besides offering a new badge next to your nick

personally, i stopped make most of the prestige missions because of that

The influence of aurora borealis on diversity of penguins.

I do approve of this idea.
One of my guildmates was complaining over AA - he had to give away his Shivermist Buster. A friend was asked for Valiance. I'm scared for my Divine Avenger and Silent Nightblade. I don't mind giving away some T1 weapons I don't use anymore for some prestige (I "wasted" my Beast Basher, I don't remember, for this quest, fight me), but heck, 500 prestige for 5* weapon I crafted from 3* is absolutely NOT worth it.

+1, as the current AA just simply isn't worth it once one hits 4* and above.

I find it highly laughable that anyone expects me to give away a hard earned weapon to make my Prestige-Peen bigger.

Completely off topic: I miss the real RSS.

@Aureate, Perhaps you would receive two weapons, chosen randomly from the three weapon types, without the chance of getting two of the same type, that would significantly reduce the amount of "derp loadouts." Maybe different weapons could also have different multipliers affecting how much prestige you earn, with support weapons awarding greater amounts. I guess you should be able to pick your armor and trinkets though.

Sounds better, although it might not work as well for some people who choose to specialise in one type of weapon... Possibly it could allow you to choose two weapons to try out and deliver out of a randomised list of six? Say, at least two available of each weapon type, so a potential list could be Umbra Driver, Volcanic Pepperbox, Big Angry Bomb, Scintillating Sun Shards, Furious Flamberge and Sudaruska. (I'm not entirely sure whether Krogmo and boss reward weapons should be included in that list or not.)

Great idea

Yes. Change "Arms Appropriation" to "Squad Inspections", where it would ask you to equip an outfit that:
-has a certain amount of special-typed defense
-has a certain amount of status resistance
-has a shield blocking a certain status or defense
-deals a particular special-typed damage
-inflicts a particular status effect
-includes a tier-appropriate or better type of weapon (sword/bomb/gun)
The mission generator would pick 1-2 of the defensive criteria and 1-2 of the offensive criteria, and you would need to satisfy all of the criteria to pass. If two criteria are picked, it's a 60-pt mission; three criteria is a 90-pt mission and four criteria is a 120-pt mission.

@Aureate, I think that kind of defeats the purpose of having the game chose your weapons.

Brilliant.

I've been trying to think of ways to make it better, (like the item you give being given to gear your own personal assistant who will accompany you if you go alone on missions or something) since I can't afford to pour CE into something with no tangible in-game benefit, but I like this idea much more than any of mine. It makes more sense to encourage players to expand their arsenal and explore different playstyles by giving prestige rewards for crafting and using items they might not normally use, rather than telling them to spend tons of CE to craft something that will essentially vanish forever and never be used in exchange for a negligible amount of basically worthless points.

@Oat

The point of the amendment was to allow those with specialised weapon benefits from their outfits to be able to use them... although perhaps giving people a selection of six weapons would be too much, I felt it would help if there were one of each weapon type available so people wouldn't be entirely hampered.
Or maybe I'm just underestimating things. Iunno, it was just a thought.

Last week I was asked to give away my trusty Leviathan for a mere 300 prestige. While it may seem crazy to you to give a Leviathan for 300 prestige, I did.

Simply because I got (and still have) my Honor Blade 5*, which is a variant of Levi but WAYYYY cooler.

That's the only time my logic told me it was okay to gave it away. But giving my Hail Storm, Glacius, Acheron... In no way shape or form will anyone actually give that away for the simple 300 prestige boost... I can farm more prestige with those weapon in Danger Mission...

Please make this happen!!!

P.S. +2, because 1 isn't enough

Edit: +2 on the not giving away the items, not the choice of 6...

I would give this a bad score but...

I was still a mere 3 star when the missions came out, and I lucked out and earned a mission with give up a cautery sword. EPIC.Anyways, +1, and suggestion. You should have a random set of 4 weapons, does not have to be related, and if you have them all, you get 120. That way, it won't be so much of a prestige farmer. Some veteran players have almost all the weapons, so them getting 60 prestige daily is cheap.

Using only shivermist buster or venom veiler for a mission is entirely fine as long as you're never forced to kill everything to move on. Even then, not like it'd hard or anything. Just slow.
