What's with the equipment prices?

I've noticed that it's cheaper to buy the weapon/armor/helmet than to buy the materials and make it yourself, considering the cost of the energy. Who makes profit out of selling equipment? They will get more money if they sell the raw materials.

A lot of people get their materials for free, which might affect equipment cost. And, to answer your other question, I sold a 2* Plate mail for 30K, so I guess I'm one of the people who make a profit.

Foolish Kethus.

Nobody buys mats because you can get them without paying. It's really annoying when you have several 5 star and 4 star mats you don't need and nobody buys them.

UV hunters

You're right that it's often cheaper to buy a 2-star or 3-star item, than to make it yourself. So why does anyone make them? They are hunting for good UVs, so they mass-craft 2-star items and sell the ones that they don't want. For some items (e.g. Gunslinger armor) there is no 2-star version, so they mass-craft 3-star versions.

Also, keep in mind that some players have numerous alternate accounts with their own mist energy streams. They don't have time to play all of these alternate accounts, so the mist energy goes to waste, unless they use it for crafting. This dramatically lowers the cost of crafting low-star items.

The same is true for weapon and trinket slot upgrades: They are sold below their official price, because the buyer gets them for far below their official price, by using free mist energy.

"considering the cost of the energy"

Last time I checked, mist was free.

For 1 and 2* stuff. I think Kethus might mean 3* and up, though.

Just saying.

But this statement ignores opportunity cost. If you use your mist energy for crafting, then you are missing out on all the crowns that you could have earned by using that mist energy in the Clockworks. In the end, each player decides his own sense of mist worth, based on how much mist he has (how many alternates he has), how much time he has to play, how much interest he has in playing, etc.

In other words, it is common for new players to make this mistake: The player uses all of his mist energy to craft. But then he has no mist for playing that day, and he signs off, even though he'd like to play. Assuming that he's in the "positive feedback" part of the game (Sovereign Slime or later), it would be better to play first, use the profits from the mist energy to buy crystal energy, and craft using the crystal energy --- more fun, more heat, more crowns, more materials, more tokens, etc.

Sometimes people don't have the time to play every single day: Crafting some items to sell on the market only takes 5 minutes, and fetches a reasonable amount of crowns.

And for people with alts:
When you've got an elevator pass on your main knight, what's the point of using your alt to run clockworks, which will generally be worse equipped, and chew through mist that could be spent on better things?

Also, people with more than one alt generally don't have 4-8 hours to spend every single day running through all their character's mist.

agree

That's why I said that each player decides this for himself, depending on (for example) how many alts he has and how much playing time. So I think we agree. You certainly know everything I'm saying.

I made that post just because I've interacted with many newbies, who think that, just because Three Rings gives them mist energy for free, that mist energy has no value. They use their sole 100 mist energy for crafting, not realizing that they could play and craft in the same day, if they planned better.

how I value mist

My main uses mist for FSC or other boss levels and my alt needs to make that ASI VH big beast basher. >:C

@Hexzyle; Those of us with multiple alts and who use them for crafting don't generally 'run clockworks' with said alt. We pass mats from our main account to our alt accounts for crafting. That way I can craft 2 items per alt, per day. AND I can play on my main with all my mist, or buy an elevator pass and craft 2 times on my main as well.

Do you see the point? Instead of crafting 2 items per day, I can craft 2 items per knight, using only mist. That's the point.

my 2 cents

Nobody buys mats because you can get them without paying

Go craft a big Snarbolax statue for your guild hall... that's 1600 green shard I believe... + other mats obviously, but 1,600 Green shard... o.O

Edit: And to answer this question

And for people with alts:
When you've got an elevator pass on your main knight, what's the point of using your alt to run clockworks, which will generally be worse equipped, and chew through mist that could be spent on better things?

I have a pass on my main (this acc) and got an alt that doesn't. I often bring her/him/it to double the profit in the same amount of time it takes me to do Roarmulus... The problem is: Time consuming.

It takes a lot of time to farm with two accounts. I remember 'back in ye olde days' I logged on my main to do RJP and logged on my alt to do Snarby's... And often wouldn't even do my 2nd snarby as it would take too much of my time for too little profit.

I use my alt to craft mostly and to double the profit on Boss tokens

I currently have 485 green shards and about 2000 hours in game. If you played a fraction of the time I have, lets say an eighth, you'd have say, an eighth as many. Which is an unreasonable account, considering that I both buy mats from people and horde, and spend them on crafting and sell them at times. But if you have say, 60 of them to donate, then that means that it only takes 27 guild member only has to donate the required amount. If all are willing to contribute, it shouldn't be any issue. And green shards aren't hard to come by either. If you tried to find them and farm them, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard at all. A couple of weeks and you'd be there... it's only when you've got one person in the guild that wants a snarbolax statue that you have to worry.

You're insinuating that I mentioned that people run clockworks with their alts, which I didn't, and it appears that you're refuting that not-mention with patronization

"And for people with alts:
When you've got an elevator pass on your main knight, what's the point of using your alt to run clockworks, which will generally be worse equipped, and chew through mist that could be spent on better things?"

Which is a shortened reword (People only mention the first option because the second option can be inferred by looking at the opposite of the first option, but I'll explain myself out now because it looks like I wasn't clear enough) of "If a player has an elevator pass on their main knight, which is better equipped than their alts, they'll use their main for ALL clockworks exploration, while using their alts to spend their mist on better things" (Crafting, slots, keys, etc, but you already knew that) except I wrote that statement as a rhetorical question as seen above, which seemed to have caused confusion.
