The new Monsters I don't believe were ready to be shipped out honestly. From the Testing Server they're still pretty boring aside from the Gel Drops. You do realize that no one is going to run these except for maybe once or twice, right? I think that these should have been held off for about a week or two.

But, whatever, it's not my decision. I just don't expect the community to be thrilled from what I've seen. They'll run it once or twice and just go back to FSC.

If you feel as this is "spoiling" anything, just feel free to edit it how you see fit.

I'm gonna miss the Rocket Puppy bug. That was a decent bug that actually made the Rocket Puppy room challenging for anyone without a decent shield or dodging skills :(

New monsters? Who cares. Game is broken. It is too late for that.. too late..

maybe you'd be taken more seriously if you'd actually care to specify what you're talking about

and also more so if you'd stop writing like some histrionic child

@Canine: That is depth 19. It's never profitable.

I like the new level designs the most out of this update. The enemies are pretty ok, no issue with them at all. Gel drops are my favorite.

TIL: Grave Scarabs are

TIL:

Grave Scarabs are actually really boring. Glop Drops are best drops aside from Gel Drops, and Dust Bunnies smell funny and aren't all that fun.

I do like the level designs for the Compounds though, they're neat-o. But it's not really worth getting back into the Clockworks for honestly. I feel like the pinnacle of OOO's creativity was the Missions Update that included Silent Legion, because that was expertly done. Nowadays... meh.

Also holy crap the new UI

Also holy crap the new UI isn't even that bad. The only thing they really need to bother with is adjusting the chat window and toggling the weapon wheel, neither of which are INTEGRAL to anything at all except Lockdown players.

Get off your high horse about the old UI being best UI; all that does is show how closed-minded a majority of players are to changes to begin with.

The compound levels are fun

The compound levels are fun and they have two different damage types making them a bit harder as well as a great level layout overall, but the scarabs need a MSI when doing their little attack they are way to easy to dodge as they are even if they are mini as for the others haven't fought them yet.

Completely agree. Allocating their tiny department to actually patching bugs instead of creating new content no one cares about would make players much happier. The New UI may be preferable to some players, but to the majority it is worse. The UI has numerous bugs that OOO needs to fix, and IF they do fix it, the majority of the players will still want the old UI back because the of the overall layout and color scheme. The New UI just a waste of time and resources.

This update itself was ALSO a waste of time at this point. After this patch, everyone will try out these new globs/scarabs/bunnies and have a fun time. And then they will not touch the arcade for another month because 'King of Ashes'/Firestorm Citadel has a higher payout. The Mini Monsters level gives as much crowns as other levels, which is completely fine. However, hardly anyone touches the Arcade anymore because of the low payout, making this patch quite useless. Players do not farm for fun, because after a while, firestorm citadel can get VERY repetitive. So why would anyone replay mini monsters over and over again for fun? Truth is they won't, and not for crowns either. Unless, for example, a prestige mission is made out of it, dust bunnies will simply be untouched and shoved under the couch.

At this point, playing mini monster levels has no real incentive. You can go through the arcade to reach the high paying boss levels and possibly go through one or two mini monster levels for added variety. However, we all know we can just open up our mission menu and just select the boss level.

I've only seen the bunnies

Dust bunnies seem okay from a 4*'s perspective. most of the rooms were pretty easy for me, however There was one room I died to. twice. and then ran out of ME, which was sad because I was at the end. Not sure if randomly generated, but if it is, then the room I died to was one where you have to run around finding switches while having to stop at little spike strips. Also, infinite spawn of the bunnies. Other than that room they seemed easy. If they are weak in comparison, then maybe they should spawn 2 at a time, IDK.

First impression.

I only played one level, but I gotta say, these new levels and monsters are pretty good, certainly not an epic addition to the game, but definitely a good one.

The levels themselves are nice in design in gameplay, graphically and spiral knights wise. The levels are pretty refreshing while still fitting within the game, it truly represents what cradle is about, a mechanical mix and match of worlds, so seeing grassy worlds and mechanical catwalks collide outside of C42 was awesome. Art wise the levels are nice to look at, while they do keep the same art as most levels, they go out of the usual color schemes and produce unique and fun to look at places. I do have to say colors did seem a bit off, I think its just a matter of tweaking the recolor scheme or just make each texture instead of adding colors to recolor-able grass. They also provided nice and new puzzles, refreshing from the same old ones at clockwork tunnels, but I assume after a while these might get boring too, but not anywhere soon.

All I did see regarding new monsters was dust bunnies, and I think they are a fantastic addition to the beast family. These guys actually provided some challenge, even though I only needed one hit to kill them, after I thought i had figured out how to deal with them, i still found myself caught off guard by their long range, and they pack a punch! I'm pretty sure some noobs will complain on the difficulty, but don't nerf em! There was however that graphical glitch seen in Canine-Vladmir 's pic, which I hope you guys will fix.

Overall this was a nice addition to the clockworks, and I welcome it and any other attempts on further varying the arcade.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to say , I would appreciate it if dust bunnies actually dropped something so my hard work is somewhat worth it, even if it is rarely dropping a crown/heat or two. I also like the barriers with the small opening where only dust bunnies can get through, I feel there's potential in barriers through which only monsters can get through. Maybe some small maze-like pathways defined by said barriers, in whihc case the dust bunnies would roam around freely while the knights have to walk through the set path.

Also, to those thinking these new levels where supposed to somehow make everyone go into the arcade and ditch FSC, it would've never been able to to that. These levels are simply adding more variety to the arcade and have average arcade payouts. Its seems many of you expected this to be a major update, maybe it was the fact that they previewed a fair bit, or expected the UI to be fixed in only one week, but OOO can only do one thing at a time.

This update is far far bigger than all of you realize-

"The Compounds are unique in that they combine two monster families"

Which means that the game just got a whole new randomization component. This opens up a whole set of things for new content- levels like C42... but that occur randomly rather than in prestige type missions.

Aside from that are the smaller details of the update, which are also somewhat impressive-

We got actual new enemies, with actual, new mechanics that aren't just going to leave in a week. This hasn't happened in forever. There was not energy sale or other kind of "help the devs to raise money/whatnot" which is odd- I was kind of expecting there to be some sort of CE promo. I would rather the devs put those out with this kind of thing than not. The level design is also really nice, all new puzzles, new and creative uses of existing puzzle pieces- like the rockets from ICMF.

My only criticisms for this update would be that this kind of thing should happen more often than it does, and that it doesn't pay as well as it could. If we got enemies like this once a month.. that would be worth talking about. This is just.. too little content, considering that it took them like, 5 months to get out. And it would also be nice if the level payout in the game were to be fixed in some way.

----------------------------------------------------------

@"They didn't fix the UI!"/"They didn't fix the bugs!"

This update was borderline necessary. The game seriously needs new content, and this patch was perfect for it. If they were to say, fix the 2 issues that I had with it- that is, started making more patches like this with new levels and new enemies and fixed the level payouts to make sense to us, then we'd be set for a while.

They are trying to fix bugs as well, but first, I think they wanted to release this patch. It's the new content that we've been asking for for a while, and while there are a ton of bugs, they are attempting to fix them, as well as clean up the new UI-
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/78024

To them, the new UI is necessary. We aren't about to convince them that we know more about their game and in all likelihood we don't. So even if we are right about just the UI, they still won't listen to us- but what they are trying to do is make it better on us, as we sit here and complain about it. And it does need complaining about, because it's ugly and blue. So they're trying to fulfill their idea of what is right, which loosely coincides with "fix the bugs!", as seen above.

------------------------------------------

@"This is the kind of thing that you'd only play once."

You're exactly right, for the most part. Most people would rather have crowns than have new content to fight...... maybe, since they can't see their money, they'll forget and play the new content instead of just grinding FSC though. That was a joke, haha fat chance.

Which is a shame.

Yes, I did, Auto.

@People complaining about new content instead of bugfixes/UI fixes, this was already very far in the pipeline and had already been on the test server twice. It was due for release, and delaying it wouldn't have made sense. The new UI is definitely not finished, and could use some major rework, but it makes a lot of sense that this was released first.

About the update: I haven't encountered Dust bunnies yet, but the Scarabs and Drops are not particularly challenging because of Brandishes. On the part of the level with the 15-odd enemies behind the gate, one brandish OHKO'ed all of them. Also, because the AI causes them to clump, and that they're not found in particularly large numbers, you don't really get that "swarmed" effect. I guess it's a matter of lag issues, but w/e. Not the biggest gripe you could have. And the level design is nice, except for the fact that scarabs keep getting stuck on bushes.

The mini mobs are okay, generally the strength of gremlin knocker, but large in numbers. Easy to knock them out, with weapons that have a large area of effect e.g Flourish for Bunnies, Avenger for Scarabs and Faust for Jelly.

Dust bunnies go bite bite, Scarabs go fly fly (which you could actually block and they go landing onto the ground), haven't seen the jellies.

This new category of monster is a good update. I suggest an improvement for knockers to increase in numbers too. Perhaps some more for the constructs (energy orbs or the sort?) or some more for the fiends too?

Edit : The compounds were certainly astounding, consider the usage of minis. I actually felt outnumbered with all the minis popping up and surrounding me. However, the compounds do not seem anything else original in terms of graphics. I was hoping for some new blocks, or even some new environment items that interact with the players.

Mini Monsters

Regarding the Glop Drops, I really think they should be immune to knockback (and vortices) while in their spike form. Without a lunge they're kind of like vulnerable Grimalkins, and the thing that makes them dangerous is the fact that you cannot knock them back. (Though you can still shield-bump them, for some reason.) When you can though, their threat level drops significantly, which is a shame because I really like their design.

Dust Bunnies are pretty fun too, and they track! Huzzah! Easily disposed of, but still.

I've yet to encounter Grave Scarabs, though...

Staying Positive~

I agree with Retequizzle and many other players alongside his opinion.

Personally, I feel as though many of the players are not giving this a chance. Games change. People change. This game is still technically in development. There will be bugs, there will be good things and there will be bad. Repeating the same thing over and over and complaining about it isn't going to make anything any better. All I hear about is how horrible the UI looks, or how enemies are weaker now, or negative this, negative that. I hardly even see positive reactions. How long have these updates been released, one, two weeks now? Goodness me, all this negativity. Smh. ō^ō

OOO works hard for each release in hopes that people will give it a chance. Receiving all these negative connotations in the manner in which the community is portraying their opinions to OOO is most likely why things don't change as much. Suggestions are good. Complaining about every little thing and demanding revert? Bad. It's very upsetting to me seeing so many people bashing things hours after they're released. I was even told by my friends that the latest update wasn't even worth trying, other than for the eye candy scenery. Will that stop me? No, no it won't. I've been into this game since Feb 2012 and I haven't seriously complained about anything. :l

Like I said before, if you loathe the changes with a passion, by all means, disagree with me if you please, everyone's entitled to their own opinion~

Till something has been done about the UI, I cannot really enjoy this game anymore, whether it be new bosses, levels, etc. My normally stable 4-bar connection has been reduced to a very humble and constantly fluctuating 1-3 bar connection. I can't play lockdown (my only reason for still playing) and I can barely play FSC (which I only run to fund my LD gear). I can't even begin to enjoy the new content until these issues have remedied. The UI update did nothing but harm my ability to play. If it wasn't broken, why did we try to "fix".

@Bulby

The whole "don't fix what isn't broken" argument is old and broken itself, so I don't even take it seriously anymore.
As for the fluctuating 1-3 bar connection...I've suffered that since the start of the year. Yes, since January.
Still no change on my end, even though I went out of my way to create a topic of rant about it but that was just shrugged off by just about everyone, saying "oh, I don't suffer from this so sucks to be you."

Yeah, people complain about it now but I was just shunned and ignored despite putting up with this for what now has been four months...
Grumble grumble...

@Shidara: The problem that I, and I think many others, have with the UI update isn't that they "fixed what ain't broken", it's that they tried to fix it and made it functionally worse and harder to use.

But anyway, this update wasn't about UI.

Trying to give this a chance...

After a couple of runs to try the new enemies and levels, I'm left with a good impression of this update, thou the UI still smudges it quite a bit so it's hard to enjoy at times. Anyways, here's my opinions of the new enemies and levels:

-Dust Bunnies

FAR too easy, even compared to the other 2 new monsters they still lack anything that "something" to truly make them unique; they are basically mini-wolvers that cant warp around. Good for cannon fodder, being more of an annoyance then a threat, they serve ok-ish as a distraction but nothing too special.

-Grave Scarabs

I freaking love these guys, they caught me by surprise the first time I saw them thinking they would be just like the dust bunnies; still work well as cannon fodder but they have their own unique thing; just ramming forward like little zombie lawnmowers of death. If they could pierce through breakable blocks they would be even more impressive.

-Glop Drops

Havent found them for some reason. Can anyone tell me of a gate where they appear?

-Compounds

I really liked the new levels; not only do they look good, they also have new mechanics and I really like all the monster combinations that appear in them. Good job on them OOO.

---

All in all, this is a welcomed update, the new levels are pretty interesting and definitely more entertaining then most other clockwork levels thou they do need a higher pay off; like they are, most people are going to play them once and then go back to grind FSC/RJP, which is a shame.

Updates like this is what the game DESPERATELY needs, thou I'd like a good tweaking to the new UI based on the suggestions on the April 3rd discussion thread (or an option to switch back to the old one) as the next update to take the sting out of its suckiness a bit.

Played all 3. Very

Played all 3. Very disappointed, the levels are more difficult then a t2 level should be. They really take the fun out of grinding in the arcade. The single biggest problem isnt' the monsters themselfs, they are kind of boring overall, and effectively manageable by themselves: Its the stupid trap room at the end of ALL the new compound levels.

Its simply not fun to play:
Between the spikes, the off set creatures, and most importantly, the infinitely spawning minis - its just not fun. Not one bit. So much so that I just press 'up', when I see them now, Pay outs have gotten so low in the arcade that its not worth the hassle. I want fun, not frustration.

GJ you've ruined a key aspect of the game: solo arcade runs.

Pretty much only one run I want to do now: vana runs, at least THAT still pays decently.

wait, what?

fun in grinding? I do not compute. having fun in doing the same thing again and again is out of my way of thinking.
also, they aren's difficult. still have to take revenge on those bunnies, but drops and scarabs weren't a problem to me, as the compunds' final room weren't. and, the infinite spawn is to teach to run IMO.

My turn.

Out of all 3 mini mobs, the Glob Drops are the least threatening. They do their job right when it comes to "crowd control", but they need to be slightly faster in order to be remotely threatening.

Slightly threatening are the Grave Scarabs. They walk as slow as Glob Drops ; the only difference that makes them threatening is their lunge attack which is faster goes a lot further than one would think, and it can push you back quite a bit. Be on your guard as they like to off-screen you before you can notice.

Most threatening minis are the Dust Bunnies. Fast, always attacking with a low cooldown, no flinching and AUTOAIM. This mini family makes Wolvers bite the dust (Pun prolly intended), as I died more times to these critters (which is to say, twice) in one run than Wolvers in a month of gameplay.

I'll have you know that this opinion comes from a gunner who solo'd the new stages, so it's very likely that all minis become cannon fodder with a team of 2+

As much as I like this update, there is one glaringly obvious, abhorrish crime against humanity:
That no other levels have been changed or updated.

I know the 'Mini' will be showing up in other levels eventually But this is a prime new ingredient (monster), why wouldn't you (DEV team) want to include it into more of your dishes (levels)?

Aside: Are the Dust Bunnies some sort of commentary on people not playing the Arcades?

They probably put it in isolated levels to start, to get better feedback from a larger population than just the test server and maybe make some improvements before they let them loose into the rest of the CW.

I only encountered the dust

I only encountered the dust bunnies.

And I think that there can be some improvements for the UI. I know that it's unfinished.

-Energy & Crowns Bar: People say that it's a bad design. It should show up and the energy bar should be redesigned. The old energy bar was better, and the crowns should show like in the old UI. That's what should happen.

-Big picture of your knight: I personally don't know why a big picture has to show. I think that you should make it smaller or at least make them all the same size, but smaller.

-Chat: You should actually allow the chat to close and open. If you press "Enter", the chat will open. If you click on the screen, the chat will close. However, there should be other options like "When a message is received, keep the chat opened for 10 seconds". I will list more soon.

-Weapon Wheel is not good: I don't find it useful. All I want is to give an option to remove the weapon wheel and place them somewhere else. It should be placed like what happened in the old UI which was on the bottom. Just have an option to place it beside the vial slot.

That's all I have for now.
