OK, who's the guy that keeps selling rare 5* recipes in the Auction House for 25,000 crowns?

This is a trend I've been noticing lately: Good, rare recipes, selling on the auction house for the price Basil sells them for. Any higher price gets ignored. It's really bugging me that I can't make a profit off Polaris or Argent Peacemaker because someone is selling them at a loss. A LOSS.

It literally makes no sense, and is taking the point of recipe farming out of the game. What's the point of farming if you can't make a profit since the other guy will sell the same recipe for the price he bought it for?

And no, no one in Haven is buying them for higher than base price, either. Believe me, I've tried.
------------

What do YOU think? Is there any point to recipe farming anymore now that elevators are free? Why are people selling rare recipes at a loss?

I'd say it's to troll you, but really it's possibly someone dumping inventory precisely because you can just keep running clockworks for them.

But the Auction House takes a 10% cut of your profits, so buying the recipe and selling it at the same prices nets a loss.

This is probably just poor judgement on his part. A large amount of the player base ingame does not know how to use the AH correctly.

BUT... this does not give you the right to call said person a jerk and rage about it on the forums. You may have made your profits off of recipes in the past, but you must adapt to the changes OOO has made, just as every other player in the game has to.

So by adjust, you mean I

So by adjust, you mean I should stop selling recipes on the auction house? The 25k sales aren't outliers; there's 2 or 3 of them at the least for every recipe, virtually all the time.

Also, I would assume players who can access 5* recipes would have already figured out that the auction house takes 10% of sales. Maybe a couple might not know; but that still doesn't explain how 25k sales are so common.

If they cost 25k on AH, why don't you buy them and sell them for more? Same price as you'd pay while Basil hunting.

I do recipes, 2* to 4* (5* just cost too much compared to relative profit). If I see a recipe that's up to Basil price, I often hit bid/buy for up to that. I'll sit on them to sell later.

Some advice for whoever's interested in recipes:
a.) 4* recipes can be gotten at Tier 2 and Tier 3 Basil, thus they are more common, and more often bought to re-sell.
b.) Many people think Token item recipes are best to re-sell, so they grab them without checking.
a.) + b.) = c.) Therefore, 4* Token item recipes are just about the worst you could get for the purpose of re-selling.

Personally, I like 3* best. Not just Token item recipes. (I don't know why people don't go to Hall of Heroes. Whenever the subject turns up I tell people NOT to buy those recipes off AH unless there happens to be one that's cheaper than normal price.)

A tip for Basil runners: Have a friend (or alt) check AH while you're at Basil. Have them look for what you see, sort by buy price, ask for the number of recipes that are there (>5 is 'many'), and the 2 lowest buy prices. Then you can decide for yourself if what you see is worth getting.

Another tip: Wiki is your friend. (Just saying. ;P )

With free elevators, I'm surprised people even use the AH. Stop farming FSC or RJP and look for the recipes yourself already.
It's less repetitive and more fun.

Right now I'm trying to get a Barb Thorn Shield. It took me 9-10 tries until Basil stopped trolling me. (For Twisted Targe). I checked out Auction House and people were selling those recipes for 14-30K crowns. WTF

But yeah....I don't see how you can make much of a profit now with recipe runs because of free elevators. Your little side business for crowns has now been swept under the rug.

juances, basil's trolling level has skyrocketed. I have been searching spike shower recipe nonstop for 3 days, then I bought in from the AH for 10k cr. now with DBB it's that all over again. if only there weren't constructs all the way into t3 anywhere, of course.

Hey now wait a second. I do it on purpose for the benifit of other players, not my own gain. If it means a loss, then so be it.

When I see economists talking as if people only ever act in naive self-interest, I roll my eyes at such "spherical chicken" simplification. Recently, due to the big changes, I've been spending a lot more spare crowns on things other than moar toys. Grabbing Basil-only recipes and making them available to other players sounds like a good use for some of my spare crowns, at least if I can afford 2.5kcr. I'll start saving up toward the 25kcr up-front deposit now. Thanks for the idea, Barbie!

*People need to come up with more original names or are you just sock puppeting?

Anyway back to the topic, I do this from time to time on the trade channel to sell my basil only recipe for the base price. I've been doing this to help the F2P players and its a good deed to be done. But i only sell it on the trade channel and in Haven not in the AH as you said it does make you lose money...

*maybe you should try the trade channel??? (press /join 2)

I just sold a Polaris for 25k a few days ago, so it might been mine you saw. Though I'm not sure if you are talking about bids or buyouts. Putting it up with 25k buyout really doesn't make any sense, but I always put them up with 25k bid, because I rather get back the listing fee, and get rid of the recipes than not. I guess I was just unlucky, that noone bid higher than 25k in two days.
