He won't be the Mechagiant, either. We have Beast, Slime, Construct, and Fire distortions already. FSC is mostly Undead. That leaves Fiend, Gremlin, and the other three status themes.
The Tier 3 boss won't be Fire-themed.
First, a lil bit of lore:
It's said that the gremlins, specifically King Tinkizar, was the creator/s of the Clockworks. The Owlites, being the wisest (and one of the only sentient beings) in the land offered their aid. But why create the Clockworks in the first place? The Recon Squad speculated that the Clockworks were built to protect the Core, but what does the Core need protecting from? Well, from the Echo Stones you collect at the end of Shadow Lairs, we all know that the Void has been trying to overtake the Core, and for quite some time. The Core feared for its existence, so it sought out the only two creatures that had the knowledge and capability to protect it. In exchange for giving them a great source of power, the gremlins and Owlites were tasked with the job of creating the ultimate security system. Unfortunately, after the demise of the Owlites, King Tinkizar went mad. Many of his citizens speculate to this day whether it's from the loss of dear allies and friends or from the power lust. Some even speculate that he was behind the attack against the Owlites, tricking the hungry kats into devouring the Owlites. No one knows...
According to Nick's post, the T3 boss will be following a storyline post-Vana dealing with the Artifact. We took this... thing... radiating a similar energy wave as the Core, not knowing what it does. I think that the Artifact is actually a key, forged by the Core to be given to whichever warrior vanquishes the Void permanently so that they may have full access to its unlimited power source. The key was given to King Tinkizar, who then passed it to Razwog to further investigate and protect since the only thing the Core said when it gave it to him was '' You will know what to do when the time comes. '' Sometime afterwards, we came in and stole the key from Razwog and now the king is royal p.o'd (no pun intended.)
The campaign missions will start out by reintroducing the Artifact and will say something like, '' Spiral HQ may have finally made a connection between the Artifact and the Core. '' Next, you will be informed that King Tinkizar has sent a horde of his finest fighters to retrieve the Artifact from the Lab, which you must protect at all cost. Afterwards, you'll need to go talk to one of Tinkizar's generals, who will of course not be very willing to share words without a fight. Following this will probably be a few random missions to '' gather more intel and resources '' and '' find schematics '' to the king's throne room. Finally, we go in and fight Tinkizar, but we see that he's been possessed by the Void. The Void took control of him and convinced him to try and open the Core so that it may finally finish what it had started and destroy it. In return, the Void will give Tink more power than he already has, more than he could imagine. Unfortunately, Spiral HQ's medics believe that the power would overwhelm and kill Tinkizar. You must fight Tink and free him from the Void before it's too late.
Once the Void has been driven out of his body, he will say that he had been aware of his actions the past few centuries but lacked the power to control his actions as if he had already been possessed the entire time. He will then explain how he and he Owlites were the original protectors and that he needs to put the Artifact somewhere safe before the Void returns and takes it themselves. That's right! The Void is still alive! The Void used Tink as a substitute, letting him take most of the damage and left when he was just about to die. The true T3 boss is the Void itself! Your mission is to destroy the Void once and for all, and then finally open the Core.
After the Core is opened, there will be a short intermission ;)
TL;DR King Tinkizar is possessed by the Void and you must fight him AND the Void to protect the Core.
@Nep
Technically, it's called The Swarm, not The Void. :P
But that's pretty legit lore. Not my style, but it's nice. I have my own bunch of lore about to this stuff, but I'm not in the mood to type it all up.
@OP
We've used all the statuses and monster types several times over, if you count in shadow lairs and danger missions.
Frankly, I think that either the new boss is a stun-themed Tortodrone or a poison themed Fiend Boss.
EDIT: Or even a FIENDISH TORTODRONE :O
Seerus + Razwog = two gremlin bosses
RT+ Collector = two construct bosses
Snarby + JK = two non-status/stun bosses
So... theory invalid?
Look at the OP. That was intentional, because I didn't want someone to come along and screw my plans for that node up. (Of course, I ended up screwing up Hexzyle's plans instead, but he seems to be happy with what he got.)
Fire is covered twice, thru Red RT and Vana, so we can have a repeat. It being a SL is no excuse.
Right. It shouldn't be fire themed. But the chances of a big derp still exists.
You are not developing the game, OOO is. Under their infinite wisdom, everything is possible.
/Bravo
that's a big good theory. But I really hope for Tortos instead :0
@ Klipik-Forum: Razwog and the Collector don't have their own super levels in the Arcade. I think Warp-Master means that are both in the Arcade AND in the missions.
@ Shotjeer: Actually, I think it is. The SL doesn't distort the Arcade in anyway; it doesn't relate to the topic here. SL is entirely optional... you do know that, right?
@ Little-Juances: I agree. OOO does throw things that we completely haven't thought of.

An SL is still a boss level, and since we are talking about boss themes, not Arcade, it doesn't matter.
It does matter. SL is an add-on.
Let's put it this way, what if OOO didn't make the Shadow Lairs come true. Then? Then the SL wouldn't count then. But it did come true. OOO's intention wasn't to make Shadow Lairs the same as the Arcade. They wanted to make it more "interesting". I don't think they thought of tieing SL levels with required bosses, but nobody knows what's going on with Mr. Glorp and his jellies.
Umm, why is everyone speculating that the final boss is tinkinzar? I mean seriously, he is just too abvious. I am pretty sure OOO will go for something that is less expected.
What I wanted is a change of event, everything we have known was wrong. Tinkinzar was the good guy, the core is the one who seduced us to free it, with its influence, it has made Arkus into a madman and consumed the Alpha squad, using their humility, core managed to use the spiral knight's innocent against themselves. As the core slowly opened, despite Tinkinzar's best effort, we, the fools have opened the pandora's box.
The core was never a thankful angel, it was a vengeful god. The swarm was never a weapon made by tinkinzar, it was devised by the core itself to consume any of its creation incase they tries to usurp. The core, now with the swarm in its command, claims to consume cradle and with the essence garthered, the core can give birth to a new world with superior beings.
The core demostrated it true colour, the messages in the echostone were nothing but lies and indoctrinations... (seriously, you guys actually believe in talking rocks? ) Arm yourself, the core's power is nearly limitless, it can create enemies out of thin air, the artifact in the biolab stolen from Razwog is infact a weapon developed by a group of prehistoric aliens, designed to kill the core. (again, it makes sense, the Gremlin will want this weapon to be as far away from the core as possible, they reason why they keep the core prisoner is due to they still need its power to survive. The weapon is only an ensurance policy) Now go knight, defeat the core and free this planet from his CONTROL!!!
Sounds like a cool plot twist! Anyone?
Personally, I'm expecting a mechanized wolver/lizard in an ice level. Immune to blitz/piercing and shiver and resistant to elemental. Who can inflict poison and occasionally stun. With Turrets and Rocket pups constantly spawning.
One thing is for sure: It will not be a Construct boss.
Why? Because we have A LOT Construct boss already (Roarmulus Twins, Red Roarmulus Twins, The Big Iron and The Collector)
Nick said that 'the new T3 Boss is a new primary antagonist for the Spiral Knights', and it sounds like a inteligent bad guy and not just a robot-guy (my opinion)
Assuming it's not the rumored Gremlin King, I think there's a good chance it might be some sort of undead, since Vana's technically a fiend. I certainly hope we won't get a super big multi-map full of status inducing Kats and Greavers or Devilites.

Indirect fights. The mastermind reveals himself, but we fight his champion instead. The antagonist could be gremlin, the boss could be anything.
Did you ever consider something completely different?
We haven't even seen the place with hallways containing a bunch of Ancient Plate statues. I know that's going to happen eventually. Hopefully.
I wonder if it's something with the swarm. Like a boss controlling a portion of the swarm.
I swear to seerus, if it's a void tortodrone, I'll poop myself.
It will be a normal theme boss and you will be all mind blown because nobody foresaw it
I can see a fiend boss happening... with a different status...
BTW Vana is a "special fiend"... so no "real" fiend boss
While considered a Fiend, he has unique damage resistance: he is slightly weak to Piercing, slightly resistant to Elemental, and neutral to Shadow until his final phase where he gains complete immunity to Shadow. In addition, he does not take additional damage from Fiend damage bonus UVs.

I can see a poison fiend boss happening... with beasts and jellies as mobs ^ ^
Yes, a normal boss. That's what I meant.
I want it to be curse, because we haven't got enough curse and if it was that status it would make it so much more useful.
Not sure for the shadow lair version though :p Doesn't get much tougher than curse (unless Sleep is brought back and is different, which I hope, but 99% likely won't happen).
I don't give a crap about what type of boss they are. Just as long as they're GOOD. And by GOOD I mean difficult to farm, and not just SLAP ON YOUR SHADOWSUN, GRAB AN ARGENT AND VOLTEDGE, AND FLY IN FOR A NICE CLEANUP!!! INTERESTING. Some sort of new status effect even...like life-drain!!!
I hope it's cursing and no fiends or undeads.
Right now curse is totally limited.
your right!
It will be Beer themed with lots of beer, mustaches and barrel belly's!
You know, this thread is a dummy. The cool thread is over here.
That means nothing. Plus Warmaster Seerus was a Gremlin Boss. I don't know why people say he isn't a boss. Because it's a DLC? That also means nothing.
