I really don't understand how OOO sets their priorities. I mean, there's a long list of bugs to fix (especially sprites), a bunch of unbalanced game elements (weapons) and
They decided to adjust the rarity of Guild Hall snipes and made slight changes to the Spiral Warden's dialog.

From time to time, OOO does make sensible choices, like making OCH purchasable with crystal energy, but most updates leave most of us puzzled.

How do you think OOO decides their priorities? How would you ever come up with ideas such as taking the most popular bomb (sun shards) or buffing some of the most powerful weapons (brandish)?

IT doesn't take much effort to adjust the rarity of Guild Hall snipes or change a bit of dialog. Doing sweeping balance changes takes serious work.

More importantly, OOO has a small team, but there isn't only one coder. One guy can check small things while the rest focuses on the hard stuff.

They are multitasking (altought the others sure are slow :v)

Some of these bugs/balance issues have been around for YEARS.

They probably approach things with whatever is convenient.

As someone who has done some programming, the more complicated a program gets, the more the bugs stop making sense. Even simple things can be baffling. The stun bug has probably been around for a while because frankly no one knows what's causing it or how to fix it.

Also, as a small company, they probably are having $$ AND legal issues. Video Game development is a LOT more than just programming the game. Income has to be their first priority, in order to just operate (not to mention to keep servers operating). In addition, I remember a dev specifically posted that the reason they couldn't make OCH purchasable with energy in-game was due to legal issues behind the scenes.

So my guess:
1) Legal stuff to allow them to keep operating/advertise
2) Maintaining a stable source of income
3) The current overall project (For example, working on Sprites)
4) Balancing
With bug-fixes being dealt with whenever a solution is found.

"The stun bug has probably been around for a while because frankly no one knows what's causing it or how to fix it. "

Because the way they implemented stun was stupid. Instead of making stun only effect attacks initiated during the stun, the duration of attacks is recalculated when stun is applied and when stun wears off.

They have a circle small "arena" with "things to do" writen on random parts of the floor, the cut the head of chichen and let it run while playing the cazoo, wherever the chichen lands, that's their number 1 priority.
Here is an example of this being used in american economics:

The way I see it, Sega just wants more moneh, so they keep forcing OOO to push out prize boxes and stuff, and make new content so new people come in. Totally forgot about old vets and just keep pushing in that direction.

@OP

1) It all remains a mystery.Surprises are fun.

2) No weapons AT ALL need balancing. Why do you think they have power across the board? To help save your butt in T3 (inb4 elite mode) of course. My suggestion: Lay off the Lockdown.

Misc: I don't see any bugs regarding sprites, or anything for that matter. Well, I guess the Stun bug needs a tweak (When you're stuck in reloading pose for 10 seconds after getting smashed by Vanaduke)

Wow, I can't tell if he's really that blind, or just in denial about the problems plaguing spiral knights.

No, I seriously can't see any

No, I seriously can't see any problems in SK regarding damage balancing. Other than the stun bug. Plus, I am getting quite tired of seeing people saying the weps and armors need re-balancing as well as the damage system. I've been playing SK since mid-April 2011 since the alpha launch. So apologies if I may have sounded stupid. But the first thing I stated still remains true, though that result may vary for some people.

Also, it's worth pointing out

Also, it's worth pointing out I've delved deeper into other balancing complain threads, and a some video footage seems to be accurate, however, that's only on the battle sprites (forum node 90084). Weapons and amrors I've still yet to see.

Look at Lockdown. Look at some gameplay videos on YouTube. Heck, just walk around Haven 1. Notice how basically everyone is using Wolver variants or Chaos, Blitz Needle, Gran Faust, Brandish variants, and Final Flourish? It's because they're better than everything else.

That's because Defence stat

That's because Defence stat in SK is almost useless (especially considering existance of damage types) and why bother with it, when all enemies are stupid, when you could just kill them? And yet there situation with Dragon Scale armor which (with two extra trinkets) resists both of C42's statuses.

So there, rebalance (or redo) core of the game, not gear.

Defence is highly useful if you know what you're doing.

"I don't see any bugs regarding sprites"

It's okay, man, I respect your decision to play the game entirely without sprites.

There are quite a few bugs. And wolver gear is NOT the best. It is very dependant upon your playstyle. I use guns, so I wear a shadowsun/elemental hybrid. People who use bombs go for bomber gear. The reason people use Wolver variants is because swords are the most advertised weapon in SK; they kill a bit faster. But going solo as a gunslinger, I can actually get through areas easier; I can take much less damage, and using the right weapons deal MORE damage in the long run. And if you ask me, that C42 problem is NOT a problem. Before it, dragon scale was useless. Now people are actually getting it. The problem which has been plauging SK about a month after I began playing and the game launched the full version is the CE stock.
