Spiral Knights HD Remake

I recently saw a Wind Waker HD remake, and I fell in love with it all over again. It looked marvelous.

Ever since I started playing SK (little under a year ago) I´ve always felt like this game somewhat resembled The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker.
Wouldn't it be nicer to see more cell shaded textures in the game at a HD resolution? I think it will. There's no need for the somewhat imitated realistic stuff like the vials, it just looks like weird stickers.

And don't even start about "HD making it more laggy", the game was fine when they did the maintence reboot once a day. And if they are still doing the reboot, someone is clearly doing it wrong.

Anyway OOO, HD make it happen. Become an MMO that would be advertised at stores. I like the small community now, but I feel like SK deserves way way WAY more fame than it has now. Look at it like this, when the game gets a bigger audience and more prominence it will probably get a bigger team behind it. Which will in turn make it easier to improve the game, updates would be rolled out more frequently.

So, make it happen yo.

HD remake not sure about that

I think its gonna take a while to do it since 000 is a small team.The game is fine as it is 000 were not as famous as Nintendo company or other famous game companies but at least it make me and other players happy :) .

1. This should be in the Suggestions section of the forums.

2. Though you may think it doesn't make a big deal, those extra graphics DO make a difference for people who have people with weaker computers (and laptops in some cases). If OOO were to implement more HD into the game, as you put it, they would also have to add an option to turn down the graphics.
That is why there are currently graphic options in the settings. So yes, I am saying "HD making it more laggy".

Spiral knights supports 1920x1080 aka 1080p therefor spiral knights can be considered HD. If you aren't seeing the option for that resolution then the problem is on your end.

Fancy lighting effects, AO, cel shading, etc... aren't a factor when considering what is and isn't HD.

texture resolution

hes talking about texture resolution and i dont know how to even figure or measure how far textures are from being hd but i think that my 4gb ram wouldnt be able to handle full hd textures

Regardless you have HD stamped all over your post which suggests you do not understand what HD is. You should thank me for clearifying that for you.

While I'm at it I would also like to point out that the textures themselves have nothing to do with cel shading. Cel shading is a type of rendering...

The use of it was because you were asking for HD when SK already supports HD. Your post was sending mixed messages.

So you want Three Rings to remake the whole game and add more detailed models to it? The textures and models we have now are good, we can't see them from a really close perspective, so there is no point in detailing them more, and remaking an unfinished game has no point.

The current models already have a quality of texture that's pretty great, and the polygons aren't overly noticable unless you're staring at your armor in full-inspect and focusing on certain things like Angelic Raiment or whatnot. I honestly don't think we need to put any more strain on anyone's computers, Java VM already chews up plenty of RAM and Processor time.

The OP's 'train of thought' makes my head hurt.

Anyways, some higher resolution textures seem to be creeping in now and again, but unfortunately not everything is being held to such a high standard:

skin_valiance.png 8bpp 128x128
???.png 24bpp 256x256 - looks a bit nicer

the antiguas will look better soon because the birds no longer look like folded sheet metal, they have a decent thinkness to them now
sentenza_skin.png 8bpp 128x128 - the birds suffer from a low pixel count under the wings
argentpeacemaker_skin.png 8bpp 128x128 - looks better than sentenza because the bird has a lot of sharp horizontal and vertical edges
??? 32bpp 256x256 - blows sentenza out of the water

magnus_skin.png 32bpp 128x128
??? 8bpp 128x128 - looks a bit dithered

You know those red exploding bomb things that litter the IMF? That is one ugly dithered texture (mortarshell_active.png)

imo this game would look like [CENSORED] if it was cel shaded....ew.

also, this game has fairly good graphics as it is, honestly, I havn't seen a java game that has better graphics than SK. also, why remake it with a different art style? the style that SK has is great (except the new UI and item icons...the old ones had a better, more professional feel to them)

currently doing an entire retexture for every hd texture, not working on meshes as it may cause crashing
