So, gunners are going to get a upgrade soon. That's great, but bombers need a upgrade too, Currently we only have elemental defense sets, and a few sets with different bonuses, they could also rework the bomb mechanic, so you can place bombs, without a charge attack(or charge them up for a better attack), this could allow us to use alternate sets with damage, movement speed or other different bonuses, instead of only ctr sets.
Bomber Upgrade !
In my head, the way I would re-work the bomb mechanic is as follows:
- Remove bomb charging altogether, instant placement upon attack (the way it used to be in beta)
- Bomb placement limit of 3 detonating at any given time
- Bomb cooldown/reload animation or whatever you want to call it when spamming 3 in a row quickly (a la unloading full gun clip or sword combo)
- Increase fuse time and have CTR reduce that fuse time where max CTR makes the fuse time the way all bombs are at currently
- Have CTR affect the duration of mist bombs, where max CTR makes the duration the way it is currently
Bomb charging needs to go altogether because any form of tick damage means a bomber cannot do anything at all--both sword and gun users can still claw their way into dealing damage, but shock/fire neutralizes a bomber, period.
Getting rid of bomb charges risks making bombs overpowered if constantly spammed with no restraint, so #2 and #3 are to curb that.
#4 is to redefine the usefulness of CTR on bombs.
#5 is to curb Striker-mist bomb usage, where instant-deployed bombs with striker bomb penalty will have a long fuse time and short duration
Well, what about Gremlin style kind of bombs/gear?
A good example is to either have bombs that can be instantly dropped (But have a small radius like Gremlin's bombs) and can also be charged to be tossed, where a 5 star Gremlin bomb will do that toss-hit-then-4-bombs-placed thing as well as stun enemies if it's a direct hit.
Or, gremlin armor, where all the bombs have a different mechanic. Small radius, instantly place bombs, and all that other stuff gremlin demos can do. (Even drop bombs when you've been struck by an enemy.)
I wouldn't mind if a few Blast Network-type bombs are introduced, but I think they should be added to the current bomb arsenal, instead of reworking EVERY bomb.
Maybe make it so taking damage just slows down the charge, instead of restarting it.
And yeah, I think it'd be nicer to have a larger variety of bomber defenses. Technically bombers have one piece of equipment with shadow defense, and the rest are elemental.
Did you ever do a construct arena and get the gremlin demo invasion at the end ? They can do the same thing
yeah, and those are fairly weak bombs compared to ours. imagine all those guys spamming charged nitros.
I think the reason developers ultimately decided to go down the bomb charging route was because bombs didn't have any use for CTR or ASI. Now we have bombs where people are forced to charge and still get no use from ASI.
The way the game is and especially in lockdown charging just makes players too vulnerable and lacking in mobility. Imo, the devs should have simply made charging a part of the fuse time and let CTR effect fuse time.
bombers have only elemental defense, yes, but can profit from damage bonuses like everyone. see merc demo or mad bomber to say a couple.
bombs could be placed without charging once. but imagine 4-5 mini nitros on your screen. no, imagine 4-5 shard bombs. no, DR. there are lots of bombs that would need rework if that mechanic was added. in the end, you want asi for bombs. there is already.
