Pretty decent rig, yet terrible fps

So, I replaced my old computer, which wasn't that bad for a game like sk, and went for a new rig with double HD6870 and a Core i5-2500k, 8 GB ram.

Thing is, even that seems to not allow me to run the game at full details, in FSC I tried to max out the quality and ended up with crappy framerate, and when I say crappy I mean less than 10 fps and many fps drops that made me ran directly into lava.

So what the hell with this game? Or what the hell happened to it? Cause I know two years ago I was able to run it at max with a very old rig, and since I went back to it these days, it's impossible to play it decently without putting everything on low. This is obviously not a problem on my part as I'm able to run any game decently with my new computer and SK is not that demanding of a game. Someone might explain me what's going wrong?

[I believe that] The actual calculations for the game are done on the server.

So here is how it'd work:

Server <- Packets w/ info on what you press <- your rig
[Server calculates what happened...]
Server -> Packets w/ info on what happened -> your rig

Yes, this is a bit of a massive simplification. But it explains it, and I obviously don't know the specifics (I didn't make the game)... you can easily see it when you open your arsenal after collecting a ton of random junk. You press the inventory and LAGSPLOSION, because you just requested and now must update a big list of information to display.

This prevents hacking.

Sounds like something on your end. With settings on high right after FSC start I'm getting 46 FPS in 1280x720. My card is an old Radeon HD 4650, if that's not bad enough, it's a low profile version with a 64 bit memory lane. My CPU is also pretty weak, a Phenom II X2 545 - none of the components are overclocked, I don't use any tweaks for extra.txt, even the java I use is 32bit.

Yeah, the graphics should be on you. But aside from that, its all server-side, so the beefiness of your machine shouldn't increase your ability to play the game. Didn't see the "I tried to max the quality" part.

The game isn't too friendly with multi-cores, especially your quad core i5 2500k, with 6mb cache and a turbo boost of up to 3.7 Ghz
I recommend searching up on bridging cores, otherwise, try turbo-boosting your core through external third party software (WARNING : PLEASE PREPARE COOLANTS TO COOL DOWN YOUR SYSTEM IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS)

Actually he is right. My friend said he made the master computer. It was. Until part of the core spontaneously combusted.

Windows Edition: Windows 8 (just gotta say... makes your life faster and easier)
Processor: Intel Celeron CPU 900 @ 2.20GHz 2.19 GHz
RAM = 2.00 GB
Systemtype: 64 bit blah blah

And the type of computer? hmm a HP Compaq Presario blah blah blah with a 3.3 rating :D TAKE THAT
Now... you say you have... i5 core processor? and 8gb ram?!

Dude.. Spiral Knights runs SMOOTHER on my computer with high graphics.. than with the lowest graphics... why? IDK

I think you're computer doesn't realize its capabilities and its being lazy with you... you gotta whip it into obedience... make it understand that you're the boss and if you want to run a game smoothly... it has to run it smoothly...

/sigh...

I remember when I got my laptop? I threatened to break it ONCE... and from then on? NO PROBLEMO
