If item drops don't exist anymore?
How Are We Supposed to get a DarkFang Shield...?
Wait, item drops don't exist anymore?
I did not know that. When did that happen?
They were the prizes for the 1988 Super Bowl.
(87 was the mineral achievements)
yeah its sad that now that items dont drop anymore (even the thread about drops from boxes stopped to receive new post) Dark Fang SHield dont drop anymore :/. there was one person confirming "box still drop equipment" in the "sprite update" but i have my doubts since this person claims got a Gran Faust from red boxes: http://forums.spiralknights.com/es/node/11128?page=5#comment-808585 (i have my doubts because this persont didnt provide a screen)
Anyway im pretty sure that item dont drop anymore wich its sad because getting a dark fang from a box was one of my main reason to keep doing decon zones. how much worth a Dark Fang Shield today since it doesnt drop anymore? 400, 500k Ce?
If SK's small population of people playing while mist energy was around yielded item drops, and our now limitless bigger population of free exploration yields no verifiable recorded instance of item drops...
...And it's been how long since we've been freely exploring the clockworks, missions, events (which had some insanely low item drops [book of dark rituals, solstice rings, etc]) for about 7 to 8 months...
... then with the evidence (or lack thereof) presented to us, item/gear/equipment drops do not exist...
... and Darkfang shields were only known to exist through item drops, so...

OOO has no official statement on this, and probably won't be telling you why.
Darkfang Shields have been around since beta, and I had always dreamed they would surface as a promo item.
But that isn't the case.
Back when there was a thing called "GATE BUILDING", I remember people trying to dump hundreds of thousands of moonstone and crimsonite to create stratum 6 gremlin themes, because of the "rumor" of rare content. Darkfang Hunting it was called.
I have my own theories and hypothesis as to why.
Item drops are/were that little carrot at the end of the stick to keep players grinding.
And now that the game can be played as long or as much as we want, the hypothetical instance of item drops occurring would rise, so they did away with that. That would also mean nixing Darkfangs all together.
Of course OOO doesn't mind that, because even if you fathomed wanting one, you'd have to pay out your Candle Stick Keep and buy a hundred thousand energy to buy one of the eight or so shields in existence, should the owners feel compelled to do so.
So it's a win-win situation for them.
And if I'm wrong, may Cronus strike me down with the power of the Third Troika and other gear we'll never get.
the Darkfang shield is extremely rare(everyone knows this). I'm not sure if it can still be found, but I know that you need a very specific set of criteria to find it.
Well you see...
In the days of early covenant space travel, there I was, in the anarondex. Fighting for my life. On my left were two crocodiles enlarged by the high levels of radiation in the area, one with an extra tail growing out of it's head. On my right was my trusty sidekick, Clyde the orangutan. Now I don't want you to think I chose Clyde's name, because I didn't. All orangutans are named Clyde. That's just how the world works. Anyway, I had ventured into this barren part of the world because I had overheard chatter in the local tavern that the Evil Emperor OOObama was withholding all the radiant fire crystals in a secret military compound. Not to be confused with the Evil Emperor Grool, who we might get to later. So I knew right when I heard that all the radiants were being held in a secret base, that I had to go and set them free. Unfortunately for me and Clyde, it turns out that if you have too many radians in one place, the whole area gets highly irradiated (they don't call them "radiants" for nothing!). So we were going to have a run for our money just trying to get IN to the compound, let alone liberating all the toxic radiants to the knights of cradle to use. And Nick only knows what happened to the inside of the facility, the guards were probably all mutated and stuff. But I knew it must be done, and if I didn't do it, then who would?
The ride to the jungle I met the crocodiles in was a bumpy one, filled with surprises of every kind, shape, and caliber. Once, I encountered a patch that almost added some new content! I was scared out of my mind and if it weren't for Clyde, probably would have turned back right then and there. Luckily, he saw through it's clever disguise, and we found out that it was nothing more than some "behind the scenes changes". Still, this did not bode well for us, or anyone. Anything that's so important that it has to be classified as "behind the scenes" by OOObama can't be good for anyone. Knowing this, and anticipating the worst, I forged onward to the capitol, where the military base was rumored to be hidden. A bit after the content patch, we encountered a knight shambling along, muttering something about "ce revs" and "lockdown", I'm not sure if this was a good sign or a bad one. At this point, to reach the base, we needed to cross the fearsome and terrible Jungle of Wu. The very same jungle in which the legends tell us of a great avian predator living for hundreds of years.
In spite of this, I forged onward.
inb4 Stranger Hat Redux promo!
Imagine the inflated Featured Auctions OOO could host now that stranger hats are nixed.
Sniped Stranger hat? Fuggetaboutet.
That's the 1% promo box drop along with the 1% chance for a snipe-spinny-wing-halo, 1% chance for a Snipe Pocket Monster, and a 99% chance for everything else.

I'm not angry with you OOO's.
I'm just a concerned citizen.
I stick with my previous comment about item drops in the clockworks.
We can't prove they don't exist (without filing a support ticket and getting a direct answer), but we can prove that they are extremely rare if they still do.
Case being, they were already extremely rare to begin with.
BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP , Bump it up! Bump it down! Bump Bump Bump BOOM!
Theoretically, yes, we can now get a Darkfang shield since drops have been re-enabled.
Practically? You're better off trying to win a lottery, and then spend said lottery winnings on buying it off someone else.
Ran 250 vanas (alt runs, so more like 500)
Got one item drop (hot edge, depth 27), got a screenie if anyone wants to see that badly. But item drops do exist!
Please report item drops at the official thread. Yes, people want to know about your drop. Thanks.
Item drops are still in the game, how do i know ? Had at least 4+ items drops since black kat event but i have no idea where i posted it since there are so many item drops posts (@'.@).
Anyway the most recent one was 1 minute before black kat event i found a brandish also rarely there have been 1 player in my team which found a brandish in a vana run(Depth 26-left room ).
Ahem.
They still exist. Unfortunately I don't have a screeny because I only realised it at the recap at the end of a stratum, but green treasure boxes dropped a brute jelly mail for me on a lichen colony level. I believe it was around depth 19-20.
Once again, there is an official thread for reporting these. If you want your report to matter at all (rather than get lost among the "so many item drop posts"), then post it there.
thanks for the reminder bopp, I found a brandish yesterday and added it to the thread
Probably a few months ago comics found a cold iron vanquisher in the prize boxes at the end of a tier 3 arena, and a month after that (probably 2 months ago) I found I spiral scale helm.
Yes, I know that people find things. And personally I don't even care; item drops are not a topic that I think about.
The point is NOT to report it here. The point is to give a detailed report at the official thread.
We'll just get them like zee cores.
