I've been reading around, people saying that the new costumes show the skin of our knights. This isn't true...it's just a jump suit. Look closer. You see fabric lines, don't you? How can we be sure that the costumes actually show...skin?
The Splash Costumes do not show our knights' skin!
It has never been officially stated how a Knight's biology works, For all we know this enviornment doesn't have breathable air to us and therefore our armor needs to remain without any holes in it.
It's possible we dont have the option of showing skin for biological reasons, besides we dont know what the enviornment will do, what diseases there are ect.
Health hazards aside, pretty sure it would be incredibly uncomfortable waltzing around anywhere on Cradle without our body/skin covered. Imagine sloshing through a pile of royal jelly goop, icky!
Just lick it off!
Not being a chromalisk, I can't do that. Know that really hard to reach spot on your back? Goop being there is the worst.
Until one of you are frozen in a block of ice while wearing your trunks/sarongs, that's when you can complain.
Ah, this again. The knights are humans.
Not actual humans, but stylized aliens that just happen to be exactly like us for the sake of us being able to role play as them. For all practical purposes, they behave like humans; i.e. they have teeth/hair/noses, they talk like us, they have an army like us... you know. Kind of like how The Doctor is human. Yeah sure he can be a "time lord" and have 2 hearts, it really doesn't matter what he actually is just like it really doesn't matter what the knights are.
Seems to me that maybe the personal color we see is actually some sort of space suit. We wear full body suit armor so that this suit remains intact.
Another thing: I am going to suggest that whatever the knights are, they have a malleable form, or at least, their legs/feet are malleable. Have you seen the legs on some of the armors out there??? O.o

1) Behaviour is no argument: Gremlins do 'behave' like humans, too.
2) They have teeth, hair, noses? Where did you get that impression From? I can see Armors with hair (Mad Bomber) but it is a costume, not actually an own body trait. Another armor like Jelly does not show even a slight shape of any hair.
Teeth? No. Screen please if you can correct me.
Noses, well on the homepage Knights get drawn with a small dent that can be in fact a nose, though it is very vague as if it is not the face but still a suit instead of the face.
3) They talk like us? Vana talks like us, too. Even Devilities talk like us! Many creatures on craddle that are obviously not human can *talk like humans*.
4) Having an army is also not a indication for beeing human in a SciFi Online game. To be exact: all creatures (except wolvers) have an army.
5) A doctor in Spiral Knight does not mean that the patients are humans. It is also possible that this docor only fixes broken wires instad of broken veins.
To conclude this: We can only assume what Knights really are but there is NO proof that they really are humans.
Knights are human-like. Not exactly human, but for the sake of convenience and being able to relate to the characters, they are virtually humans. Are human-like aliens really all that rare in the Sci-Fi genre? Hair, and teeth? See the description for: Vitasuit, Rocky Core. Noses? Any helm that exposes a Knights face like the Emberbreak line, Magic line, etc. Of course, Knights also have a sense of smell, and I wouldn't know how we'd accomplish that any other way but to have some kind of nose, no matter how hard to see it is.
Knights are nothing more than humanoid creatures from the planet Isora with advanced technological capabilities.

2) See Rocky Core (Material) and Vitasuit Deluxe descriptions.
5) He was talking about Dr. Who.
What if we're cyborgs? Idk if you guys are familiar with Metal Gear Solid's Raiden, but he at several points has been literally a human head and spine, everything else replaced with cybernetic parts. We could be a biological brain connected to a robotic body, or a head in a robot suit, etc. It'd explain why we can swap out our armor parts so easily, even if it means our feet literally changing size (compare our "bare" feet to the Plate armors, for example). ;)
I'm not really sure what knights are but it's an interesting thought. The whole bit about not exposing our bodies to a foreign planet is also a good idea for it.
Though I gotta say, I hate showing skin personally, so even if it's just a skin-tight wetsuit with shorts over the top of it, I'm all for keeping my knight in such an outfit. :3 haha. I find the feeling of clothing/fabric against my skin more comfortable than just air, idk. Maybe our knights do too!
I guess we are whatever we think we are. Seeing as nowhere in the SK canon is our composition noted, we will just have to *gasp* use our imagination, which of course means everyone will have a different view on it.
I myself would love it if my knight showed skin. I'm generally an exhibitionistic individual though, so there's that.
Re: covered in Royal Jelly goop
There was this one time Fangel, Panda-Fishie, and I were wrestling together, and just got all covered in Jell-o...err Royal Jelly goop. We had to find creative means to remove it from each other. Of note, while using your own tongue is difficult for cleaning oneself, using someone ELSE'S...
@Jenovas
There are two things that you're missing. I've done my homework on this issue, and all of the things I listed should be entirely accurate. By "The Doctor" I meant Doctor Who, a "time lord" with two hearts.
But the big thing you missed was that they are sentient beings that feel emotions etc. in the same way that humans do, and that it really doesn't matter if they're fabric constructs, or humans, or timelords, or talking bananas. Like Perronius said, we are whatever we think we are, and that's it. But to classify the knights as the closest existing concept? Human.
Resources for you to read/look into:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Knight
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who (doesn't need to be trustworthy/is pop culture anyway)
/think "There must've been some crazy stuff in that jello since I have no reconciliation of this happening"
But you know, things happen. ;o
Perro! I thought we agreed to never share that story!
And now the universe knows.
What if we are fabric constructs?
