Hi,

Hi,
I'm new to spiral knights and I was wondering if someone has any tips for me on starting off, what I should put my attention on and how I could get some starting crowns and such.

I will guide you through the from the end of the tutorial mission to your first crown farming location, from that point on, you are on your own.
1. As you go through the first few missions, you will be given some new weapons, generally around 1 star, they are your basic weapons. And some new shields, guns and bombs are also introduced to you.
What you should do at this point of the game:
-Understand the enemy types, what enemies are beasts, undeads and gremlins
-Which one of the weapons given to you is the most effective for the challenge ahead
-How to craft a new weapon
-Pick a fighting style, whether it is pure sword, sword+gun or something else.
2. After you got all your free weapons, sell the ones you don't need and it should give you some starting crown boosts, because soon you will get some free two star gears, they are stronger than all the stuff you got before. The free two star stuff you should have gotten: cobalt helm, colbalt armor, defender(shield), calibur and blaster.
What you should do at this point of the game:
-the free weapons that you are given are the worst of the gears in SK, be sure to visit hall of heroes to get some superior gears, don't let the free part fool you. But for now, you should use them.
-with a full set of colbalt armor, you will be able to defend against piercing damage as well as normal damage, however, no resistance aginst elemental and shadow damage, so be sure to save up crown to craft new gears in the future.
3. Shortly after you recieved the colbalt gears, you will confront your first game boss, the snarbolax, a hellish wild beast who likes to tear any knights apart on sight are you ready to take it down?
What you should do at this point of the game:
-snarbolax fight are recorded on youtube, so watch them first and get some rough understanding of the enemy
-you can fight snarbolax as many times as you want and through killing it multiple times, you can gain alot of crowns. Which you will need to make better weapons.
-Killing snarbolax will gain you boss tokens, after beating snarbolax enough times you can trade them for boss related equipements, you either sell them for more money, or use them to your advantage,

The advice above is generally good (I haven't read all of it), but much of it is already covered in the "Useful Links for New Knights" thread at the top of the New Recruits forum. So maybe read some of that material, and come back here with more specific questions?
putting what Bopp said in a harsh tone.
First step to getting better at game is to not give up and post "I need help" and actually look at stickey. Or at least you can look for other helpful topics. Remember: The internet is your best friend. It is not good to abuse your best friend XD
But really, I think Bopp and I are tired of new players being absent minded.
You can also watch the Quest to vanguard series that Latisan-Sklay (and myself, to an extent) is making, where we get to vanguard using what is seens as the most efficient gear. It should serve as a pretty good guide/walkthrough when it's done, if you're willing to watch it. Neither of us are supermegapr0skillZz (Although latisan knows all the facts) so you could even improve on it in your own run if you have those kinds of reflexes etc!
I'll be honest though, just playing is the best way. Spiral knights is not a difficult game until you get to the much later levels, by which time you'll have an idea of what you're doing anyway.
1) Read Bopp's Sword Guide. Even if you're planning on being a bomber or a gunslinger.
2) Read the Swordmaster, Bombing, and Gunslinger guides on the wiki.
3) Focus your early gear towards beating the Snarbolax. (If you're not sure what that entails, re-read Bopp's guide. Snarby is a beast who does piercing+normal damage.) Farm the Snarbolax to earn crowns and tokens. Use his tokens for some nice gear.
calibur is more than enough to handle snarby... you really dont need to create specific gear for that mission
"Snarby is a beast who does piercing+normal damage"
No, he does just normal damage. Like everything else in Tier1.
I need to know where you are in the game exactly to give you a clear indication where you should go, but here are some of the basics you should know.
There are four types of damage in this game: normal, piercing, shadow and elemental.
Normal damage can be dealt by any monsters in SK, in fact, all monsters in SK do a certain amount of normal damage to you.
Piercing, shadow, elemental are regarded as special damage, they are only dealt by certain race of monsters in the game. Read wiki if you want further info.
This game will provide you with armors and shields that can defend against some of these damages, so you have to pick the right gears against the right enemies.
This game will also provide you with weapons that can help you fight your enemies better or worse in the case if the weapon is dealing damage that the monsters are resistant to. So pick a load out wisely.

Enconomy 101: crowns, heat, heat crystals, materials, CE and you
Crowns: the basic in game currency of the game, all non-respawning enemies will drop some and the quantity of crown from each monster can be random. You can use them to buy stuff in the auction house, NPC vendors or trade goods with other players.
Heat: heat, if you finished the tutorial, then you should know they make your weapons better, but the developer is a jerk, and some lower star weapons will have absolutely no impact on your DPS when they are upgraded, in another word, don't expect dramatic changes in your defence or damage output.
Crystals: when the heat gauge of your weapon is filled, you need crystals to bump to the next level, I recommend you not to gamble and always go for the 100% forge success rate.
Materials: You can feed them to your (SPOILER) pet, making weapons or just sell them to NPC vendor for fast money.
CE: paying players will convert their real life money into these CE, crystal energies, basically, they are the premium currency of the game, you can buy them with your hard earn crowns to buy some valuble goods which will be important in your journey into cradle.

CRADLE ANATOMY:
Cradle is artificial planet, or what I liked to call it, a massive planetary dungeon. And this dungeon is consisted of 28 playable depths, so you can in theory go from depth 1 all the way to depth 28, of course, the deeper you go, the more dangerous the mobs become, basic MMO trope, so make sure to get good gears before you venture deeper.
what gears are good in SK? D:
Please read the wiki for further information, I can't tell you what gears you should use, you will have to follow your own instinct and preference.
