Right now, one of the things driving the CE market up is a reaction to the increased demand in energy for crafting.
In one of Nick's posts either in the update notes or in an explanation for the energy increase (I forgot where I read it) it was mentioned that certain equips that were supposed to be rare/good were becoming common. This tells me that OOO has an idea of what equips should be considered better than most other equips. Why not then make the energy cost for those items go up and bring the other "normal" items back to a "normal" energy cost? It's really weird seeing 2* items cost 50 energy then seeing it jump to 200 energy at 3* and then seeing only 400 at 4* (following a x4 increase 4* should be 800 energy :P). Control the rare equips by just increasing their energy costs and leave the normal equips at a normal energy cost (meaning a x2 increase after 2* so 50, 100, 200, 400).
This will likely call attention to the good equips, but at this point in the game experienced players have experimented and found most of the "good" equips and are farming them already. Why try to hide them? Their energy cost will call them out, but it'll also put people off making them since it costs extra energy. This would help stabilize the energy market a bit and would appease some of the players who are still angry with the initial energy increase.
