Recently I've been seeing countless threads on the game being ''dead''. It's clear that it's not dead ... yet.
The game is very much alive at this stage, people are still playing the game and it seems to have a decent audience. That being said if you compare the amount of people we had during say the sprite update to now is significantly different and it shows, take lock-down for instance , i used to play lock-down hours upon hours on end it used to be fun even though it hadn't changed in the last few years. Not having changes is fine if the game is good but if you have no changes then even the greatest game will stop being interesting.
This serves to be true even in our daily lives and the reaction to new stuff is biological, to put it in a simple manner our brain produces dopamine in response to a new exciting product and as soon as this activity becomes routine the amount of dopamine receptors decreases and hence your ''joy'' decreases. The same applies here, spiral knights is a great game, I enjoyed playing it but after i got through to teir 3 and got every set i could have wished for the thrill i.e dopamine levels decreased. To some people who still play the game can fall into different categories.
1. New players, which are still experiencing the game for the first time, these people look forward to making it to higher tiers and getting new gear.
2. The cosmetic player, these are the people who pay to the game and participate in the routine cosmetic updates which continues their engagement to the game as be it new gear or a costume it's new and your brain wants it.
3. Players who haven't been here since the start, these people would most likely have been playing for a long enough time to get high tier gear but not long enough to have played every boss 1000 times, these people do see the game in a decent light and still find some joy towards the game.
If i am to go back to their original point i was making which is ''the game is not dead'' you'll see that most of these people you see posting these threads are more than likely to be very old players. These players much like myself see no real reason to play the game anymore. While it's true that there is no new content it's not necessarily true that the game is dead. Clearly people are still playing , the servers are up and ''updates'' are rolling in.
So to put an end to this current argument and this long thread, the game might be dead but it's very much alive for another player if you're sick of it go play another game like i did, it's just what it is for any game you play be it an MMO or a single player game when you beat the game you don't really go back to it (unless it's a sandbox game). Hence if you got through the current content let a new player experience it the same way you did.
