I haven't seen a more impatient community. Other games sometimes take longer to come out with "a desired patch".

Those that can answer you likely won't here becase of the "Spoilers" ruling.

Officially, we had hints at the boss last summer. It likely has to do with Herex, the round grated object found in Almirian castles near the throne, the artifact, and the swarm. You can speculate what you will with this about an update.

The flip side of this is that we haven't seen any notion that the developers are working on a major update in a timely fashion at all. They don't answer questions, talk to us, release patch notes, or hint at a gunner/Herex update at all. The only communication that occurs is when they're selling us things- these factors combined have lead to at least my own negative speculation on the intentions of the development team. The team lost Nick, but that was almost a year ago now and it's been a bit longer since we were promised guns within a month. The key thing about this claim is that they aren't "OOO", they're "Three Rings of SEGA". I would like to think, that when losing a lead developer SEGA would step in and assist them in making a speedy recovery, so that they aren't set back three years in development. Because of this, having a small team isn't as much of an excuse either. It could be argued that Spiral Knights doesn't bring in enough money to warrant more developers, but it could also be argued that having more developers would allow Spiral Knights to make more money in the first place.

My personal solution to all of this would be a "what's in development" post and small release containing a new level, balance tweaks, a new weapon, something permanet and moderately meaningful every month, month and a half, or two months. This would add a developer presence to the game, and lead away from the idea that SEGA is just using Spiral Knights as a scapegoat to milk the playerbase for all it's worth, and would in turn quite likely lead to a more loyal playerbase that at least returns once a month for a few days to check out the new content, possibly purchasing things.
