The wiki uses this icon to show that there is some relavant information that requires mouseover.

At this point the information is not particularly crucial, nor do i know if there are any crucial information elsewhere hidden behind this function.

However, my issue with it is that it is not touch friendly =[
I can't mouseover and tapping it leads to the above page.
I play on my pc and have my ipad to look up the wiki.

The only other example i can think of is XKCD, and their alternative descriptions behind every comic.
That works because on mobile, touch-and-holding on the image brings up the image name or image description.
However i dont see that option working here as every image is the same.

So if it would be helpful to a minority if there was a touchscreen friendly design before the wiki uses this function to a greater degree.

Thanks for this feedback, we will look into that - we're sort of limited with what we can do due to the WikiMedia version OOO is currently using. I'll ask around to see if this can work. But the mouseover information for those "notice" icons needs to stay in the tooltip. If you like, I can list what each one says on the page that the icon links to? Until we figure out how to make it more touch friendly. It's pretty much read-once information type stuff.

In the meantime, would you like us to pop the descriptions out of the tooltip and into the table itself (for the furniture lists)? I've designed it so we can do this with ease, allowing us to try different formats, so don't worry about it being "work" for us :)

In case you're curious, the reason I tried out the furniture list (not the main list, but on the furniture group pages) is because the descriptions for almost every item's recolor is a clone with the same or nearly the same wording, and for the winterfest tree/obsidian obelisks, the text was very long and stretched the table quite a bit. But we can put the extra long text bits into a show/hide, and leave the rest simply visible if that's preferable.

good feedback

Thanks for your comment, Evning. Sometimes we have these discussions in Wiki Editors, without any real idea of what the "silent majority" is thinking.

Hard to Avoid

All we can do is try our best and constantly ask around...so we do have some idea of what people want. Personally, I wouldn't do much editing without hearing suggestions from both players and editors alike :)

What would you suggest regarding this, Bopp?

don't know

I rarely use a touch screen to read any significant content, so I don't understand subtleties or know best practices. And my wiki activities (such as they are) are more about generating content than refining the user interface around that content.

By the way, my post #2 was not arguing for any side in this "dispute". I was just trying to encourage player involvement.

@touch screen

I don't use touch screen either! time to find someone who does, and also edits wiki.

This is a bit worrisome for our GearList project...but once a user knows what the symbols mean, the visual cues should generally be enough...

Did What I Could

I've changed that file's page to have a short list of all the things the tooltips say for this icon around the wiki so far. Hope this helps a little bit (wiki images might take a while, sometimes a week or more, to show up correctly).

I don't edit wikis, but i do

I don't edit wikis, but i do use touch devices a lot.

To be honest, i was expecting some vitriol when i mentioned i use touch devices as this is a pc game.
But the response has been very nice =p
if i feel i can provide some suggestions i will.

I like the list of tooltips but i feel that over time it could be hard to reference if the function expands scope.

I dont know how else this can be implemented other that using those "click to show" boxes
what about changing them, if you guys are free.

The gunner content is probably first priority now.
