Conspiracy theory!
Perhaps the GMs are purposefully messing with the CE market in order to line their own pockets! Their shenanigans can go about undetected and they have the original evildoers as a cover, should any accusations arise. They have every incentive to do something like this because it comes at absolutely no immediate loss to them, as far as manufacturing costs are concerned. Players may quit in droves, but the immediate benefits stand to outweigh any long term consequences!
I don't necessarily subscribe to this notion, but hasn't the thought ever crossed your mind?
Well, if they know the game is going to fail, might as well profit now and brace themselves for the inevitable.
No offence but, wouldn't expect less from someone nicknamed zeitgeist ;)

I have to agree that this is definitely a conspiracy theory.
Your RIGHT! That makes SOOOO much more sense than the market simply expanding because the game is growing a player base, the number of crowns a player has increased due to having a marketplace to sell goods, and CE is currently the primary currency in the game used to PLAY the game making it more desirable than crowns.
But your wildly speculated completely unfounded theory, that appeals to the idea that a game developer who has spent years of their life making a game just to actively destroy it to make a few more bucks, sure makes more sense to me!
Credendo, you seem to be new to the concept of trolling. I hope you have learned something, today.
Also, I'd totally do what you're suggesting.
Credento, he said GMs not developers. Your argument is invalid.
=P
Three years spent creating a game for two months of business. No, the investment is far too much and too deep to just give up on something that would be extraordinarily easy to salvage, were they in fact responsible for the CE Crown price rise.
Not even to the point of a sunk-cost fallacy-- if the prices were their responsibility, they could make more money and also increase the lifespan of their business by simply lowering it again.
But prices are player-determined, and the pay-as-you-please business model is the very same one they carried in from Puzzle Pirates (which out-competed the "more sensible" subscription payment plan offered for the same game).
This whole idea just doesn't make any sense.
Eradicats, most the GM's in the game ARE actively developing the game, it's not a huge team, your argument is confusing....

The GMs and the game devs are separate groups on the SK team. There is no overlap; the GMs do not code the game.
As for the OP's little flight of fancy, it's just plain weird. Pocket lining by any staff member would be detected. I wouldn't want to be the person who got caught messing with the game economy. Brrr.

Hi Eurydice, I personally don't put any doubt some staff could be implied in the CE price raise (because that's a silly idea, simply), but with all the respect I owe you, it would probably be welcome if something was done to limit the effects of this new trend. Not that I want to start sounding alarming, but first of all CE sellers (wether they bought them to resell or simply are selling their own cashmade CE) won't seem to be putting an end to this anytime soon. Besides, the price is actually starting to be high now, its reaching a critical spot at which making benefits on dungeons visited will become hard, impossible for most, even including the sale price of materials which meanwhile see their prices decreasing more or less dramatically.
I don't really believe its good that SK would arrive at a point it couldn't survive without some kind of in-game financial help, like I imagine Wall Street would rather not be in such a danger of crisis it'd need government's help.
Thanks!

If all they wanted was money they would just make the game pay to play and be done with it.

I heard my name!
Actually, there mon ami, I think that OP is a crazy loon and I would never make such a bitter hateful post. He is just mad about rising CE prices and lashing out. I feel his pain, I really do, but I tried to warn ya'll.

That is one of the funniest things I have read all day... 'I would never...!' That's a good one!
"immediate benefits stand to outweigh any long term consequences"
...When on earth has this ever been true of anything?
