Other uses for useless materials
I know the body of recipes is not finished, but I'd like to see a larger variety of ways to use common materials. For instance, I'd love to see crafting vending machines in the clockworks that craft one-use items like capsules, vials, hearts, vitapods, or even heat. They'd be great for stocking up before a tough area.
Absolutely. It'd be awesome if you could make all sorts things that you could use once in an ocean. Something like 100 red shards to make you immune to fire for 1 hour / 5 levels, whatever, would be sweet.

I would love a 100 red shards => 1 mineral
or whatever ratio would be balanced.
Alternately something like
10 frayed fabric => 1 fine cloth
10 fine cloth => 1 miracloth
again, adjust ratios for balance. Getting 100 frayed fabric to make 1 miracloth sounds sufficient to not trivialize the awesomeness of finding miracloth (+ crown and energy costs).
All recipes usually call for a smattering of commons, and then 1 or more rares. Except the ratio of common-rares needed means you'll always have extra commons, and now I'm swimming in them :O
I need *SOMETHING* to use them on that doesn't burn up an ingredient that only comes along once in a blue moon at the same time.
Changing the recipes to require something like 4x as much of the common materials without changing the rare material required could help this as well :P

My crazy pie-in-the-sky brain would love it if the alchemical guns required them for fuel. So periodically you'd have to drag some into some magical spot on the gun's information tab to charge it back up. If not, the gun would just fizzle out and not be usable.
I'd like to see junk materials (especially shards) be used in alloys.
Manners by which to condense the more basic materials would be nice as well.
