So with Hardcore Mode, we have seen a lot of hazards. Some are more obvious than others. But how could we make them more interesting?
As it stands, we have a few different forms of hazards. I'll go over these real quick.
HAZARD TYPES
- Active - Requires the player to remain active to capture a point. Example: rotating bullets on the point.
- Defensive - Acts as a sort of defensive position for the point. Example: bullets orbiting around the point's border
- Punish - Punishes the player for ignoring a hazard. Example: lichen and rocket puppy spawns
- Hidden - Not too obvious of a hazard, but punishes players for not keeping an eye open. Example: single bullet in the center of a point
There may be more categories, but most hazards can be dropped into these four categories.
Without further ado, let's list some more hazards that may prove interesting!
- DRONES
- SPOTLIGHT
- MYSTERY SWITCH/BUTTON
- STATUES
- FIRE
- MONSTER CAGE
- MINIS
Drones are monsters found in the clockworks. They are composed of shankles and wisps, both of which act as mobile traps. Having a golden one bounce around a control point would add a bit of randomness to it.
Spotlights can be found in the "The Collecter" mission. Walking into the spotlight causes 3 explosives to rain on the player who walked into it if they do not move.
A switch or button can spawn on a control point, which can do one of the following when hit:
- Drop 4 hearts around itself
- Cause a large thunder strike to strike the point, similar to the attack of the Sparkcaster Deluxe that Sputterspark uses.
- Spawn a random status mist
- Fire a knockback pulse, similar to what battlepods do.
- Drop several gremlin demo bombs
Alternatively they could only do one of these every time, but the switch/button looks the same for each one, so you'd have to discover it yourself every round.
Trojan or almirian crusader statues respawn on the center of the point. When broken, they spawn their respective monster.
Shadow fire/fire blocks spawn on the point. Probably a single one in the center.
A monster block spawns in the center of the point. Breaking it will free a random monster.
Mini monsters will spawn on a timer, similar to the lichen hazard. They will likely overrun the map if players don't clear them out!
I'd like to hear any other hazard ideas from the rest of you. :)
(Also the mini monster and drone hazards could easily be turned into the idea for a new map. We don't have a compound themed one yet!)
