So, I've found a few posts about this, the most recent being ~4 years ago, before Grey Haven
I know GH are more concerned with content updates rather than technical updates right now, but I believe SK is long past due for a UI scaling option. This is my current condition.
Press F11 when viewing for fullscreen, and that is exactly what I see.
7 years ago at launch high resolutions were not the norm, especially for games such as this. However, higher resolution is becoming more and more prevalent and affordable. According to the Steam Hardware Survey as of February 2018, 5.03% of users render above 1080p. One out of twenty players is not an insignificant number. The opposite problem exists for users with lower resolutions, and in some cases makes it unplayable. According to the survey cited earlier, 11.73% of steam users render at less than 1080p, for a total of 16.76% total users rendering at resolution other than 1080p. Furthermore, I suspect the playerbase for SK rendering at less than 1080p is likely higher, due to the "lite" nature of the game making it playable on lower end machines, which favor lower resolutions. This is an issue that the devs consistently overlook.
And as for me personally, I cannot simply render at a lower target reolution due to my setup. My driver renders games internally at 4k, then downscales to 1080p. This has a similar effect to antialiasing, except far better quality (and costs far more powerful a performance decrease, don't try without a powerful video card). Due to an odd issue that I only encounter with SK, selecting a lower resolution causes it to take up only a portion of the screen, with the rest of the game rendering off-screen making it unplayable. Therefore, I have 3 options right now
- Play using a UI for ants
- Each time I want to play SK go into my drivers, change settings, reboot machine (too much of a hassle for a single game)
- turn resolution down to the lowest possible, play in windowed mode, and pretend I'm playing a gameboy advance
According to these threads, I am not the only one having this issue. I know all players would greatly appreciate a QoL update every now and again, so please, if this issue affects you too, then speak up so the devs can hear you.
