Greetings,
As of today, Spiral Knights is no longer participating in Steam Trade. You should still be able to claim items that are in the middle of a trade, but in the future you won’t be able to trade any of your items away from your knight via Steam Trade. I know this might be disappointing for some of you, so I wanted to explain a bit about why we’ve made this decision.
Our Terms of Service strictly prohibit the trading of real life items (or currency) for in game items, outside of direct purchases via our billing page. These trades often cause players to be scammed and end up hurting the game as a whole. To be clear, this means you cannot trade anything in the game for anything outside the game regardless of if it was allowed previously via Steam Trade. This includes keys for other games, items in other games, items on Steam, or anything similar.
We previously made an exception for people using Steam Trade because it was harder to be scammed and it was safer for players. However, that ended up being confusing for players as it was allowed in one place and not another. We wanted to end this confusion.
Further, there were several incidences where people were still scammed by people on Steam. Often they were unknowingly trading illicit goods obtained via stolen credit cards or other forms of fraud. Items traded in this way could even be removed from their inventory when Steam identified this fraud. This put our players in a vulnerable position both legally and with us.
Finally, it was clear that there were technical issues that were preventing Steam Trade from working properly. We decided that we didn’t want to devote the resources to fix something that was causing more harm than good.
