I'm not going to write an essay about this because ya'll will pick it apart despite having never touched PVP.
please go look at his maps in the crucible test mode and tell me if they look fun/playable to you.

Disagree

Some of the maps are Vials only, which are only in "Testing" and not approved - and maps with traps are usually around the edges but never truly excessive.

Varris clearly put a lot of time and effort into these maps aesthetically and mechanically and they have been played by a variety of dedicated superbrawl players for fun via the Crucible too.

Some maps have traps that are there for decoration purposes and do not activate, take a look at "Purgatory of Thunder" for example which is an approved map. Only the shock traps at the edges activate and the middle sections do not. It's a close range map for enjoyable battles.

I have touched PVP a lot and Varris has literally hosted community sized tournaments such as the Trials of Tyr with huge prize pools. They are fun and playable.

These maps are fine, but please tell me how "Batter Up" by Spark-of-Kill and "Frozen Spiral" aren't on your concern list? Frozen spiral is mostly frost traps that halt combat and deny players from actively getting closer to fight each other while Batter up, well, just load it up and tell me you'd play it.

I still think its valid to feel this way but I think adding some of your thoughts or criticisms could actually help Varris design the maps maybe in a way that could appeal to you too! Feedback is important but as someone who has participated and played Superbrawl a lot - I do think these maps are quite good.

Varris’ maps are perfectly fine for the community tournament rule set he runs.

What needs changing is the process by which maps are approved and how frequently they can appear in public lobbies. Frozen Spiral was funny the first time I saw it. Not so much by the thousandth. Being able to rank the maps in-game could be a possible fix.

agreed, but why stop there?

Gyre-Of-Guile mentioned player-ratings being a long-term solution to map approval. When (and if) that time comes, it would be of best interest to unapprove ALL player-made PvP maps.

To put it simply, the vast majority of approved maps are terrible PvP arenas and, under judgment of people who actually do PvP, most of them would've never been accepted.

Submitting gimmick maps onto the official Super Brawl rotation seems a bit silly tbh. If they want to run events they can easily achieve that via testing the map through the Crucible tab instead of tainting the pool of official SB arenas.

And before anyone says anything, I do not exclude myself from this. I mean it when I say ALL maps should be sent to a vote. The Crucible maps that are actually good (Shipwreck) will very quickly be voted back in.

It indeed goes beyond that

Many maps currently in the map pool are suboptimal, so a player voting system or a separate queue for community maps only would be ideal. Gyre did say they'll be adding player voting eventually, which was nice to hear and I hope we'll get to see it soon enough. It is exploitable, especially through alt accounts, unless there'll be a system in place to prevent that.
