I quit this game just because I hated the original forge update so much. I've come back once or twice I think, and the result's pretty much always been the same: I write a rant, and I leave. Even after I heard about the arena update, I still didn't update my game, and I still don't know if I'll update my game. But I probably will.
What irked me most about the forge update was the chance to advance faster than my friends. One or the other member of a party might collect all of the untradeable drops, and then the loser of the group is goaded into making a purchase to keep up. That coercion repulsed me, even if it were merely being allowed to happen by chance. Like yeah, even if it's not rigged (like the prize wheel between levels, which was shown to have weighted odds), the fact still remained that my friend's chance misfortune was going to be exploited the same way a rigged outcome would-have-been, anyways. And over a broad population, that makes it the same thing. You know it's going to happen some percent of the time even if you don't force it. Even if you don't target people, you let god do it for you. And as soon as that happened, I couldn't play. I wasn't going to leave my brother several quests behind just because I got luckier in a loot game. I was complicit if I allowed myself to reap the benefits and play levels he wasn't geared for, or if I went on without him and furthered the gap. And this wasn't just like, I played more levels than him: we had the same hours as each other, and he just got stuck on tier 2 quests by chance.
Thank you for fixing this. I still don't know if I'll update my game this many years later, but at the very least, I'll tell him about it same as how he told me about the arena update. And you know what? If that gets him to play, it probably gets me to play, too. But regardless, it just makes me feel like the world is a better place than I thought. Thanks.
