Since a recent update, it no longer seems possible for retrodes to spawn spikes, which has significantly hurt spike income. I imagine as retrodes and zombies are very similar, whatever fix was deployed regarding the zombies situation has had the unintended side effect in no longer spawning spikes for retrodes.
