I don't know, it's pretty suspicious how some people ask for ridiculous stuff (1 CE for example) or make really good deals, buy in bulk useless mats, etc.
Or people that randomly trade you.

They're not useless mats if you need them. I fail to see how it's ridiculous if someone tries to make good deals; they could just be generous, need quick crowns, or just not give a frak.
People that randomly trade with you: I don't really think of that as someone trying to scam me, but rather I see it as someone about to beg, so I never accept a trade from a random person.

They're getting ready to go craft crazy? Seems like the only reason someone would want to buy that much in bulk. I started playing when Steam was doing their Summer Camp event, so I was crafting and selling Firecrackers like mad for quick, easy crowns (was quick for me because the connection I was on blew and made running clockworks a pain).

If somebody I don't know opts to trade with me, I usually give that player a single scrap metal, or a single crown.
I'm hoping that disdainful an amount will be perceived as worse than nothing.

There is useless mats when you don't ever use them. That is why I only ever sell mats in huge bunches, like 1000+ for 30k. Need to dump as many that I don't want.
Well, I for one, am an Impatient person, so I usually ask/pay for ce under 100, sometime I'll even buy 1ce, simply because I'm to lazy to wait for the mist tank to fill up before crafting, It isn't really a scam, since you aren't trading the person outside of spiral knights and they aren't gonna make a huge profit out of one ce lol.
The good deals, are a way to secure a sell, like I sell mats below AH price, that way I would know that they would sell, and I wouldn't sell mats that I needed.
Randomly trading, might be for those who are desperate for something, whether or not they are willing to trade something legitimate in return.
If it doesn't screw you over, then don't hesitate to trade is all.
