What do you think they would be?
Effects of getting rid of elevator fee.
Topic ^
Yes, that's the correct term, but for a user like the OP asking such a foolish question, I went with a word they were more likely to understand. But thank you for nitpicking my post. Really.
Man, wooo, I am pissed how people can't take criticism, yet I can for a favorite rpg like the BoF series. I just had to spend three time on 100 ce at nearly 6k crowns on t2 Ironclaw with 3 arenas in sequence. I don't want to say I should spend an extra 5800 cr just to get 10-20 ce to go to the boss finally and get the amount of tokens I need for a trade, but I have to get it over with. I want to sell the energy back, but I don't want the buyer to wait for me to drop below the cr/ce rate like at maybe 56cr/ce. It's wrong. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps...gotta hold back on crafting or at least lose money in the process, and I don't care about the extra energy as I'd rather have mist energy to use for dungeon runs. Whew, I forgot to add that you should imagine yourself tired and you just want to get the game over with after waiting for arenas and missing them and waiting again to see it not cycling.
Getting rid of the elevator fee? Why stop there, why not have Three Rings send YOU a check?
The game is Free to Play with the option to pay directly for energy. There are plenty of games that have no elevator fee, but they are not Spiral Knights.
The complete collapse of the game's economy, which is directly tied to the consumption of Crystal Energy.
Also, widespread sleep deprivation and injuries due to hallucinations caused by sleep deprivation.
I think if they removed the price of elevators they would trade it out for other things, they could definitely invent more CE content to keep it in check, maybe some decent CE priced recipes, if they did remove the CE for elevators I would assume they would have to remove the market tab as-well, so in total it would probably be a trade from pay to play, to pay to win....come now these guys are in it for $$$, but then of course battlefield heroes is still alive and well with just selling clothes O.o
HEY OOO you could learn something there!
How this is dumb. This thread wasn't just about ZOMG Hyperinflation. God.
There would be more things to be discussed, like what sorts of people this
lack of elevator fee would bring in (I'm pessimistic about that)
The lack of a fee's effect on people's ideas about the game's difficulty (again, pessimistic about that)
I never freaking said "Let's get rid of this stupid elevator fee."
well we answered your question on what people thought about the game's difficulty. hyperinflation equals mixed viewpoints. just read the above posts. anyway if the elevator fee was gone, then the game truly would die out in one way or another.
This kind of thing is something I find fun to ponder.
First, getting rid of elevator fees would *NOT* create hyperinflation or "infinite crowns" since running gates requires *time*, something far more valuable than the 2.5 cents per gate that 10CE costs. Indeed, I doubt that the average player would increase the amount of time they play by even as much as the increase from power surge weekends, people just won't play every day like they will for special events.
The amount of crowns fountained per player would go up, but probably not by more than a factor of 2 and maybe much much less.
Second, it would change they way people run gates. Reviving costs energy, but starting over from the top of the tier would not, so people would not feel as compelled to go deeper into tiers. For many people, energy reviving would be something they just wouldn't do. This would be an indirect loss of a CE sink for OOO, costing them more than just the loss of elevator fees. Because energy reviving would be done less, there would be a bigger incentive to play in a party rather than soloing.
Third, mist is in the game in a large part so that people who are starting out can run gates to get mats/crowns to advance. Right now, if there wasn't mist in the game, people would have to buy CE to start playing in the clockworks and would have to buy CE if they couldn't generate enough crowns to self-sustain their runs. However, if elevator fees were eliminated, OOO *could* remove mist. This would have a dramatic impact on UV crafting, but for most people, the change wouldn't be huge.
Now, since the amount of crowns fountained into the game would go up, and since far fewer F2P players would quit playing the game due to the hassles not being able to play the game (and/or not earning enough crowns to self-sustain), I would expect the cr<->CE exchange rate to go up significantly. It wouldn't shock me if it went up to costing 20kcr or more per 100CE, and maybe much much higher. Likewise, the price of materials would drop dramatically. The cr<->CE exchange rate going up isn't hyperinflation, but rather a shifting of relative values between CE, cr and mats. The crowns earned per player might up up 10%-100%, but the cr<->CE rate could go up much much more. With inflation, both the supply of money people have goes up and the cost of goods also goes up.
Right now, the ratio of F2P and P2P players is kept in check by F2P players quiting the game out of frustration of not being able to run gates. Instead, the ratio would be limited by the frustration of F2P players not being able to buy better equipment. Since UV farmers with mist would no long be an option, most good UVs would be held by P2P players, either via farming with CE or by selling a small amount of CE for a large amount of crowns and using Punch.
All in all, the effects of getting rid of elevator fees would have a huge impact on the game in not-so-obvious ways. The way people run the clock works would change, the differences between what P2P players could do vs F2P players would change dramatically, the player population would change, etc.
I agree with most of it but I'd like to make a few points.
On the first point, people may even play less overall as there is no real feeling of 'must use up my ME'. It may even out with people playing less during the week and then having a marathon session at the weekend.
On the second point, it would probably have little effect on energy revives in groups... a last resort when all of the party dies, for soloist, it would be a question of cost versus convenience, some would pay CE to carry on others would start again. Under the present system it's cheaper to revive up to a point than start from scratch, especially the more floors you have travelled.
Getting rid of mist would have a huge effect on crafting and the market for crafted items. The price of 2* and 3* items would shoot up. Sellers woudn't be cutting each others throats driving the price down just so they get a sale... it would cost them too much. At the moment you can still make some profit on a 2* item selling it for 1k cr if you use mist. Now look at the price of CE... to make a profit without mist now add around 3k cr to make the same tiny profit.
is pretty much what I was talking about. Not just hyperinflation!!!
Hyperinflation is obviously going to happen if they got rid of elevator fees. The above things, especially about
the revival fees and elevators weren't. Thank you!!
@ranzo
as with you other rambling post, if you can't wait to get the game over with because you are tired/bored why do you play, you seem to gain NO pleasure from this game. Get some sleep.
I agree with WRS, and I think at-least to me it turning that way would be a good result, it makes the trade out longer time playing than less time, but in total more game-play.
If OOO decided to go that route I think they would have a higher income because it wouldn't make it feel so pay to play or so pay to win, it would just set it as payers have their things sooner, freeloaders like myself would have to spend more time in the clockworks to catch up to them.
and in that trade would make end-game less sudden at current a lot of people who pay get to the end game in about a month, to be loaded to the hilt in gear 2-4, and by then they are nearly bored out of their mind as they have all the gear they wanted.
going by his theory it would actually do them a lot of good to go that route because as of now the game is in total too fast for payers, and too tedious for freeloaders.
Indeedydeed. Free cr is all that will occur. Less people would buy ce then, cuz they only need it to upgrade, and using mist will be just about redundant due to the sudden spike in CE users, cuz no-one will really need it.
Free money.
It would only be free money if your time is worth absolutely nothing. Time is valuable, even to poor teenagers. The 10CE needed to take an elevator only costs 2.5 cents, even running an entire gate is pocket change for the vast majority of players. Time, however, is limited and probably the limiting factor on play time for most people right now.
Edit: Oh, and I hinted at this in my first post to this thread, but let me state the obvious: if elevator fees were eliminated, OOO would not sell anywhere near as much CE, not only because CE wouldn't be sunk on elevators, but because people would dramatically reduce the amount they energy revive in the clockworks. As a result, I can't see OOO making this change, but it is fun to ponder the actual effects.
Reduced elevator costs would lead to a increase of players. Which then in turn, leads to slower servers and lag spikes. To prove my point, when gate costs were reduced to 5 the amount of people went up. And the quality of play went down. Even with the pay of 10 ce per gate the gates get overloaded sometimes.
I find SK fun and can't seem to get enough of it. And 10 CE doesn't bother me as a cost to do a lvl. I can make easy enough cr at the current moment to buy more CE and continue playing for all day if I want. Also the price of elevator cost make people think about there time more. You play till its up and go on to something else or buy CE with cr or cash. Kinda helps balance out you life if you know what I mean.
I find the current system fine and wish people would quit whining about it. Unlike so many other games that require you to pay for some items. In SK you can get everything free if you want.
There is also the PvP to play if your out of CE to, I played for most of one day and only lost 2K in cr. (But I made over 40K cr in sales of mods)
So if you ask me the game would lose one of its most interesting things. And if you like it, maybe you should think of supporting it.
Way to much farming. Power surge is good enough
This game would fail if there were no fees
