It's kind of depressing to be surrounded by so many newbs.
Am I the only one who starts from Tier 1 to save money?
no, just do tier 1 the first time to avoid the fee at the other tiers. I never see anyone in gear higher than 2*s in tier 1.
60 CE to finish Tier 1 from the start.
Currently rate: 60cr / 1 CE.
That's 3,600 crowns to finish Tier 1.
For Tier 2, it's 200 crowns per entry if you did not pass the previous tier.
Number of times to break even for a given gate: 18 times
I personally don't think it's worth it since I'm not doing JK more than twice a day.
Unlocking the fee for FSC may be more worth it, but this depends on how much I'd play the gate for the next 8 days.
Things that make it more worth it:
- CE gets cheaper.
- You are able to join a party lower down in tier 1, using less CE to unlock the next tier.
- You value leaving and joining a party again if you join a party at Emberlight.
Things not considered:
- Heat, crowns and mats from Tier 1 run
- Time it takes to do the Tier 1 run
Yes, every time there is a tier I care about (JK gate Tier 2, FSC gate Tier 3, some other Tier 3s) I complete the preceding tier to get free access. I use my friends and guildmates to pop in as deep as possible --- depth 6 or depth 16, for example.
I generally run gates to get free tier access, but I do it more for fun/variety than to save crowns. T1 danger rooms are not a cake walk, due to the nerfing of items, they aren't as hard as T3 danger rooms, but they can still be fun. I find doing a PUG on T1 to be fun, no matter how bad/stupid they other players are, I know i can get through, so stupid play doesn't bother me. On the other hand, you can also find fun/smart new players that way. Many T1 players have never seen a real gun slinger, bomb user, or even a sword user that doesn't just go in and trade hits. It isn't fun enough to do every day, but it is a nice change.
And, yeah, the crown from T1 aren't that bad, stratum 2 pays better than stratum 3.
just join a random group. sometimes you'll get lucky and land at the terminal.
i find tier two fee is worth it
i used 200 crowns for entry and in return i got to jelly king (thx to nicoya-kitty) and earned 7500 crowns
I used to start at T1 and go down to basil or one level past when a new gate opened. I'd usually try to jump in with a group to save a few E and maybe make it a bit further into T2 that day, since I was only diving on mist. I stopped doing that pretty much around the same time I stopped flipping 3* recipes in the AH. It wasn't worth the time and mist. If I ended up with a team of noobs I'd usually just hang back a bit and just try to keep them from dying so I wouldn't be killing everything before they got a chance.
I do still run T2 before T3 (though I don't often run T3). 500cr is a lot more cash to lay out especially when I'm not completely confident of making it very far past basil, and doing a T2 run is at least usually break-even or profitable. I opened up the latest RJ gate, for example (hi Kriptoid!), because I thought the T3 stratums looked interesting.
Of course, now I'm spending my mist this weekend on buying trinket slots instead of diving levels, but the gate will still be there later...
eh? depends on what you mean. If you mean you do a run in tier 1 so you don't have to pay the crown fee for entry into tier 2 for the week, then yes I used to do that (and still do depending on certain things).
If you mean you start on tier 1 EVERY time you play and work your way down to tier 2 or 3, then that's not really saving money.
