Yeah i went to coral phantom too and got about that much. There's also a ton of arenas in tier 3, it's great!

I would have done higher
I would have done higher teirs...but honestly, he takes a lot more hits to kill and if I can get 10 candies from him at T1, then I would rather go through T1 instead. Not to mention his lackeys get stun breath I imagine.(Or at least, they did in T3...)
Although, if I'm not mistaken, the Coral Phantom gate does have a lot of Tunnel type levels....I don't know...I feel that the serpent gate is the best if you're just aiming for tokens.
The T2 Coral Phantom is awesome if you're shooting to get some crowns too. To each his own I guess....

I've been doing the Serpent
I've been doing the Serpent gate, T2. I think it's the serpent, it's the one with Roarmulus. It's basically 4 clockworks tunnels and a graveyard, then the boss levels. Two easy runs on mist, and I'm at least not giving up huge amounts of crowns and mats for the energy spent.
The gourdlings are 1-hit killable with pretty much any weapon I've used on them, and their swipes take off maybe half a heart at best, even with no shadow armour. I haven't noticed them using stun-breath, but I'm usually busy chasing that bouncing punkin around so it's possible they do and I haven't noticed.

Hm...maybe they don't have it in T2 then...I'm not sure...I haven't done a T2 Punkin yet. I might try another experiment, to see if it's worth it.(To me, T3 punkin, isn't worth it. But i'll take a shot at a T2 Punkin.)
