The difficulty was already very hard, but that's not enough? Like very hard is not enough, let's make it impossible, right? Let's put turrets all over the place? I had no problems with old RJ and I keep dying at the new one.
Why do you need to increase difficulty of already very difficult boss? To make people buy more CE in order to get FoV and 5* gear with UVs?
Bring back the old Royal Jelly
No no no, the new Royal Jelly is much easier- and much more in line with the difficulty of a T2 boss. Trust me, if you take out those turrets, it's much harder for the JK to heal. He doesn't self regenerate anymore. He has to come in contact with the mini jellies to heal. And only the Turrets spawn mini jellies. So there's reason to destroy those both now, rather than ignoring them and zerging the JK. There's also far less mini jellies spawned, as well, so using a gun is now viable (and perhaps easier, see the next bit).
There is another change to be aware of: *Touching* the JK hurts you and flings you away. I hope you've practiced your precision striking and know the exact range of your sword! It's much harder to just spam FoV charge attacks now. The boss is much more strategic- and if you play correctly, it becomes much easier as well. It is now possible for the random party in T2 gear to beat the JK on their first try- if they can quickly enough pick up on the mechanics of the fight.
As the previous poster has highlighted. The Jelly King is all about strategy. It is much easier now if you know what you're doing.
Since when was the Jelly King ever hard?
Since when was the Jelly King ever hard?
Someone needs to go into the graveyard a dig up that thread of someone running RJ in 3 minutes an dieing several time in full skolver when he attempted to prove he wasn't a newb or something equally silly.
@OP: No Royal Jelly isn't hard now, and it wasn't hard before. Maybe when you're 2*, but if you're having difficultly with rj in full 5* gear you really suck honestly lol
Edit: @Rangerwill: I think I was pretty obviously talking generally and not accounting for circumstances like latency issues (Which more to the point effects just about every SK players outside of the US and many within it, even if the severity varies greatly).
I have immense lag at JK. I mean, like 4 FPS. So I can't solo JK despite my 4 & 5* gear.
Who knows? Maybe a Blitz needle or Volcanic Pepperbox is best for JK now. Of course I am not in full 5*..
Cheers.
considering he isnt resistant to piercing like normal jellies, its not a big deal to solo him with a blitz needle
incredibly easy now, almost too easy...

He apparently was pretty bad. I remember when I began playing( I was a preview player) the first time I did the Jelly King I was in 3 star armor with others in 3 star armor and it only took about a minute.
I think the only way people die is if they don't think and they go in hacking and slashing at the little ones. Just remember to bring poison/fire/curse. Do not bother with anything he spawns just run in hack and slash then shield. Let him rampage, charge run in hit a few times and he is dead.
Ive soloed him with toxic needle with a death i think, the 3* one, so yeah autogun line works, youll need poison if no one will destroy the turrets, but fov still works solo so no reason why 5* people need to change the strategy, however for 2-3* people in a party bringing a toxic needle or whatever source of poison will work great, or they can keep the turrets down with their calibur spin while someone uses their firotech alchemer or whatever
Saw my little brother face him off. Can't wait to try him myself. I see they implemented the visual damage display, so he loses his crown and gets bubbles after a certain stage of damage. Thats good to know.
Can't wait....25 or so days to go...
Just killed him solo too, something didn't feel right.
He may actually be easier, i was in a hurry to tweet an entry for the contest, so i tore through him pretty quickly, and even at a rushed pace he didn't seem quite as difficult as before.
Ooh, this is interesting. So if you kill off the polyps, they are gone for good, and RJ has no more healing? Or does he still periodically spawn minis that he can resorb? I fought him once post-patch, but I wasn't paying close attention.
And FoV still works, I was able to decimate him even easier thanks to the lack of pink spikeys blubbing around.
Truth be told, i didn't even bother to take down the polyps i was in such a hurry.
The old Jelly wasn't so much a HARD boss, as a fickle boss. I beat him enough times to get my Sealed sword and some more tokens before this patch and stopped going into his depth after playing the rest of the area. At this point, I have several 5* items, and many 4*. I have beaten the Roarmulus Twins alone, seldom EVER needing to revive, in gear from 3*-5* many, many times. I am not a noobish player, nor bad at this game, and before this update I did not feel confident to beat the JK alone. His is the only level in the game, outside of Firestorm Citadel that I did not feel comfortable playing alone.
I had gone into his "throne room" with a group will all 5* gear (except for myself at the time) who got fed up and left when we couldn't beat him (and these are guys who DO know what they are doing,) and I have gone in there with a group of 3* guys who had never played the level before and won.
Before this update, the fight was very little about strategy, and mostly about knowing what gear (and vials) to bring, and spamming attack a lot while hoping that the little jellies didn't kill you before you killed the big one.
There was obviously a certain degree of strategy, I'm not saying there was none, just that the fight was all aggression and persistence. Most of the times that I played that level before, we lost because someone was trying to pick their shots, and trying not to get hit, and as a result didn't get any hits in against the Royal Jelly.
Now, the way it works is all about strategy. What to attack, when to attack it, and you aren't absolutely required to either save up vials to bring, or come with a poison/fire weapon to keep damage on the King constantly. With the addition of his crown breaking off when you do enough damage, you actually have an indication of when you are winning as well, as opposed to keeping on reviving if you die and hoping that you have been doing alright.
Because of the more reasonable crowd of mini jellies around him, you can actually do this fight with guns (for players who don't favor swords) and you can actually stand a chance of charging a bomb up.
Previously, I'd beaten the JK several times, but mostly thanks to the efforts of the groups I was with. By no means did I not help, it just wasn't me carrying everyone.
Today I solo'd him for the first time with mixed 4* gear and while it wasn't an easy fight, it was a FUN fight, and I did not have to revive. Now this is a level that I will play again, rather than one that I write off every time he rotates back into the gates.
Kudos on the boss fix, OOO. This one makes up for the frustrating new addition to tier 3 that most of the tier 3 players won't get to see.
They made it easier, more funny and strategical, like everyone else above me pointed out.
The old royal jelly belongs in T3. I'm glad they nerfed him (it?)
Most of the players that haven't climbed out of T2 will benefit. The jump from T2 to T3 is one of the most infuriating and off-putting times in the progression, and a good percentage of my steam friends lost interest in SK at precisely this phase. Judging from glancing at steam stats, the bell curve of players is stuck here and they need as much harshness removed from their way as possible.
In the old system, JK was difficult to solo, and the only alternative was RT and even then IMF is pretty much a harrowing test of your graphics card and CPU, weeding out the below-average computers that most players are likely to have. This stopped people from progressing via selling of T2 boss token rewards, because they only saw a future of endless Jelly Palace crown grinding and going up at the pre-JK elevator because after several failed attempts they realized that the old fight was broken.
So, I'm not sure what you're talking about. The strategy in this new JK is fun and JK is FINALLY weak to shadow, unlike the INCREDIBLY UNINTUITIVE design decision before (put yourself in the shoes of a rising player gearing up for JK farming but is still learning about the game). But beyond the scope of your difficulty with the new fight, now it is satisfyingly winnable, and it will keep most players from ragequitting before hitting T3.
But I agree with other people about having the option of the old JK boss fight back.
New JK has a severe weakness to the DA charge attack. (I don't mean yellow damage)
@Onionflunkie well you could always run the ice queen instead. <zing>OH WAIT.</zing>
Went back to solo the new Jelly King again. Killed him without using pills, vials, or my mech.

He's weak. Very weak. Very slow. Less aggressive. Less engaging.
He no longer spews the little jellies from a central point. Instead, the turrets seem to do most of the jelly tossing. And it's ineffectual.
So the floor almost never gets as congested as it did before. That means there's almost no dancing or dodging involved on the players part. You can simply step away and find an open spot to regroup.
He no longer anticipates your approach. Previously, if you started for him, he would anticipate your move (momentarily glow red) and attack. Sometimes, he would do this twice in a row. Now, he sits back and waits for you to attack him.
I don't recall seeing the bigger jellies either. So the mob threat on the floor is gone.
There's almost no strategy to him now.
You can literally spend almost the entire time in the center of the room without worry.
I only started losing health when i decided to stop charging my sword and rush him in order to put him out of his sorry existence.
I can't even imagine how easy he must be with 2 people.
do you really feel that the boss is harder? they made it way easier
