Reasons why it happened
The Free Elevator Pass- REDUCING CE DEMAND whilst still having a HIGH SUPPLY of CE
This made CE not needed for Elevator runs for a MONTH
Thus people could easily gain up 100s of 100000 CR easiy without spending a single Energy Unit.
Less Demand, Higher Supply,
And lets not forget the market is RUN BY PLAYERS
The Shadow Keys Being MERCHANT BOUGHT
Thus we now can get these again depleting the CE supply AGAIN and in turn raising the price because all the cheap ones get bought out.
I see no reason why It would stay at 5000. It only reached that low price because of the high demand of CE due to all the Updates flying out requiring CE.
I'll also add you like stating the problem in 3 lines and giving no real counter arguement in the OP. Just saying.
I expect it to be 7.5k by next week if no other updates are made to reduce it. Then again 7k is nothing considering you use Mist only OR the free Pass
Come back when it hits 10k, THEN we can complain.

I think most everyone is thinking backwards. Being the elevator pass is in place, everyone is spending their money on the pass and not buying ce with real money, there for the supply of ce is going down and the crown intake has risen, and everyone who now has the pass wants to buy ce with crowns and there simply isn't enough ce being bought with real money and sold for crowns...
in turn before $5 or $6 = 1600ce which would = either 160 depths or approx 96k to 100k cr
now $6 = no ce but allows unlimited depths and as much cr intake the depths that you can run will provide.
90% of the people who i talk to have bought the pass, and the other 10% wont buy the pass nor ce. so thats my reasoning why I say ce supply is going to depleted state and cr intake is rising.
if OOO is going to continue to offer the elevator pass they need a way to keep the energy market and supply stable, it only makes since to buy the elevator pass but now no one is going to buy ce untill the little supply that is left is completely depleted. Before the pass ce was the only thing you could purchase, now we have the pass yet ce is only still able to be entered into the game through purchase with real money, that now needs to change. I know before the pass I would spend an easy 200ce+ a day on just running depths, and yes it would pay for its self. I also think ooo sold more elevator passes in 2 days then they do in at least a week of selling ce? just a little bit of what i see.

Yeah its the worst, thats why theres no reason to complain now, since technically the price could rise to 100k if the sellers want that. However looking back at Short's post, After the Limited edition passes are taken out of circulation, the price will most likelygradually go down to 6k again if not 6.5.
But like I said before, it was like this before the steam update and all that followed. People have predicted this LONG before, and some people didnt believe them. Also if these passes are out AND you have 100 Mist energy, I see no reason why even newer players whould have trouble generating enough CR for CE. I mean, JK was nerfed, and the levels are what REALLY gives the CR anyway, averaging about 5000 cr per run even WITH one or 2 revives if you really need them. Rinse and repeat per day and youll be racking in 100 CE per 1.5 days.
BUUUUT if your n5* and in FSC and STILL can break even, then you shouldnt be whining at all.
TL;DR
Run JK every day. Dont do the Boss floor. Use a MAXIMUM of 2 revives if needed. 5k CR per day and basically free.
Tell me how 7k is bad now.
T1 yeah, but aren't they supposed to just LEARN the game and not be in the CE market yet? And T2 should be able to break even.

OOO Would like CE in game
OOO Would like CE in game prices to rise as high as possible. Which would then require players to buy CE with cash, and thus give them more funds to continue to improve and promote the game on a global market. If CE is cheap (as in purchasing with crowns) then people will always buy CE with crowns and NEVER spend a dime on this game, which ultimately would be a bad thing.

But if more complaints emerge, then forget about dropping CE price. If you're gonna whine about it and not ADAPT to the price like we have for EVERY update, then too bad, I'm gonna try to raise the price.

Then go fix the problem, raise or lower the price. Complaining really gets nothing actually accomplished, only doing what will ideally benefit you or others or both will.
Take your pick, but I do hope the price climbs above 8k.

The last Petition to lower CE prices got about 100+ comments. out of those 2 people signed the petition.

Grievos - the dark source you're referring to would actually be the players. Players set the prices based on what other players are also willing to offer.
One factor is certainly the new elevator passes, but I'm not sure if those are in as widespread of use as some think. (Though really, they should be!)
