Previous Inhabitants of the Cradle: Zombies?

Again, skimming through the Wiki, I was looking at the Different Types of Monsters there were in the Clockworks & i happened to Stop at Zombies for a reason...
They're called Zombies...but they don't look anything like the Knights, Gremlins, & Devilites. Does this mean they were Alive at one point, living on Haven or in the Clockworks, roaming about? What happened? How did they become Undead? I want answers & I want dem, nao!

I had done some research in the past, and discovered something quite interesting. If you look closely at zombies and the ALmirian Crusader Armor/Helm Set, you'll notice they have many same characteristics. Exact same spike shoulder plate armors for one. Look for yourself. Or you can look for the thread I made about my discovery.

Well, based on the backstory of Firestorm Citadel, yes, there were people.
If I had to give an exact reason the zombies exist, I would say it had something to do with the Swarm, or the diety mentioned in Vanaduke's backstory.
Based on the happy green and sunny walk from to the Rescue camp for the first time, they probably lived on the surface.
