I'd like to suggest a "slap" attack with minimal or no damage. It would be very short ranged and wouldn't provide any knockback or push.

Basically, it's purpose would be to hit switches and break blocks and minerals. More then anything, it's purpose would be to help pure bombers with these tasks. It can be annoying to have to wait a second or two to hit a switch, and it can be quite aggravating getting minerals that are spread apart. Perhaps it could also be used to cut grass (helping gunners as well) but mainly it would be for blocks, switches, and minerals.

Not really necessary...

That might be a viable option, but I think that there are already swords that can do all that, and which actually do damage.
I already find that it can be frustrating not having a sword, especially when breaking minerals (especially with 2clip guns/slow swords), but then you could just use fast/3 swing swords to do the job.

EDIT: Wait, maybe I read that wrong - did you mean this slapper would take a weapon slot, or would it be separate? Because if it isn't, then you would have my +1 :D

It would be also useful as a "punishment" agnist teammates (it would just make the knight fall down, with the animation of when they are hit by a knockback attack, but without damage or knockback), or for more "obscure" uses, if you know what i mean, heh.

70% of the Switches are far away, so instead of slap why not the knight makes a fake gun with it's hands and shoots a tiny bullet.

They usually give you a pot to hit distant switches. Really, this would just be to help bombers with environment interaction, I don't think it needs to be spun into something so complex...

not a bad idea but I still wonder how to activate it, will I have to cycle through it each time I switch weapons?
I wouldn't want to be facing perhaps a like say a lumbar from behind having just placed my rock salt to deal with some wolvers or whatever and then when I hit the space bar to get my now blazebrand ( just made it still has that new wep smell... *drools* blazebrand.... a-a-a-ahhhg ) I get behind that walking tree and.... give it a nice slap on the rump...... most likely to receive the same from him in a moment with a little more force if I don't get my shield up asap.

So will this perhaps have a different trigger then normal attacks? are we using the "v" button for anything yet? to lazy to go check my options to see if anything is on it at this time.

@Liveice The slap could work decently as the non-charged attack for bombs, though it would be annoying (if not outright detrimental) to have to slap the air every time you wanted to lay a bomb.

@Juances What if the hand-gun shoots a Gadouken-style projectile that fizzles out a short distance after being shot? Such a projectile can safely hit exploding blocks, but wouldn't have enough range to hit the far away switches.

I love this idea, it'd be really helpful. Maybe it could be binded to a certain key? For ease of access.

I'd also like to suggest a way for gunners and bombers to be able to revive and pick up items more effectively. The numbers of times I can't pick up a water bubble in Vana to extinguish myself or have to detour a bunch of times before being able to revive a teammate and not get killed.. D;

(Sorry for not directing my responses to the people who commented, I'm not the best forumite)

I guess it could be a "burst" or something that occurs at the start of the bombs charge, but then, it might get annoying to randomly hit objects when your charging. It should probably be mapped to a third button, aside from attacking or shielding.

Hitting explosive blocks WOULD be a problem huh? I guess since it would be non-damaging it would be fine if it had a bit of distance to it.

As for "slapping" other players, that would probably be better served as an emote, though I don't think everyone would care for it. Maybe make it opt in / opt out?

This is a good idea so far!

I like the idea of not having to mash the z key a bunch of times when I'm trying to keep the gate open for my slower teammates... I'm thinking on the emote thing, it wouldn't knock them over or anything, as that could be a great way to be hit by Vanaduke's mace. >.< Anyway, more on the slapping other knights thing: It could be a decent way to start a new game. Tag! The person who's it chases other people, and if he/she slaps them, then they're it! It'd be a great activity to start playing in the Guildhalls. Although now, I'm thinking, what about all the perverts and pedophiles out there who'd gladly walk up to a knight who they know is a girl, then circle around and... yeah, you get where I'm going. Maybe there could be a sort of personal shield that players can keep up, so they can't slap and can't be slapped. Sort of like ignore, just, not ignore, slap shielding or something.

Why slap? How about a punch? Power poke? Headbutt? Sparta kick? (I prefer punch) But it's a kind of funny idea. A non damaging attack only used to activate/trigger/revive/pickup/push something instead of a full swing of a Sudaruska that instead of hitting that switch attack a whole bunch of monsters you didn't even know was on the other side.

Love this idea. It could be bound for a key that players want ("c" or "y"). The speed will be cutter speed and should be calibur range (hit and shield).

Why not use different names

Why not use different names based on what weapon you have? Bombers "punch" with the shield (I guess they could punch with their bombs... though that doesn't seem too practical), Swordwielders "slap" with the flats of the blade, and Gunners "whip" a la pistol-whip~

Actually, punching with DBB could probably do some damage, seeing as it's covered in thorns. Also, driving Sunshards through a Pit Boss's skull would probably kill it...

But I digress. A small attack to keep me from having to lay a bomb to get a crystal would be nice, even better for those who don't have a Crystal Bomb or DR.

Crystals were a pain when I only had 2* alchemers (Pure Gunner) since they only shoot twice. I mean it doesn't bother me now coz the rebound hits every single crystal in the room at least once lol but it was frustrating shooting twince then reloading just to destroy a crystal, then another knight walks past me and antiguas/cutts/flourishes the rest of the crystals into oblivion.

Hit should be range of sword, to safely hit explosive blocks. 1 DAMAGE FTW!

Well...

We have a side blade accessory - why not just make that a weapon you could use? Not to say if you didn't have the accessory you couldn't use it, more that the accessory is what it looks like sheathed or whatever.

Just a thought.

Hmm. Good idea.

I play a lot of Alien Swarm and routinely get confused that there's no unarmed melee attack. So if this could be implemented, I'd be all for it ... and this is coming from a career swordsman. Damage doesn't have to be much, just what you'd cause by throwing a pot or vial at someone.

The only problem I can see is finding a way to activate it without making the control scheme more complicated. Maybe pressing shield and attack at the same time would do it? It could take the form of a heavy shield bash.

I think it would be fitting if there was a button for swinging a pickaxe, or something, that every knight carried. It would be most helpful if this button was designed for slashing plants or obstacles, reviving allies, hitting switches, lifting objects, using consoles, inspecting sparkles, and of course, breaking minerals. Essentially, a utility attack which is also used for every context action. The main attack button should only attack.

I could just imagine a pure bomber slapping greavers to death to keep them interrupted. I don't know if this would be allowed, but it sure would look funny.

totally agree this is needed.

I think i know how to get this done.
Give all bombs normal attacks which is just a slap.

But really i like to slap outside of clockworks =p
