Three ways to Rez

1) Energy rezzing
When you die, you see the panel to pay for a rez. You return with full health. (Also, did you know that if a party member has died you can click on their little tab on the left side of the game screen and on the menu you can pay to revive them even if you yourself are not dead?)
2) Health sharing
When someone dies, you can walk up to them, press the attack button, and give up half of your health to them. I think you get a portion of their gathered heat for doing this.
3) Rez on next floor
If you die but the rest of your party makes it to the elevator, you'll start on the next floor with 3 bars of energy.
Discuss.

Energy rezzing is only useful once or twice a run otherwise it can become very expensive and if you don't have Crystal Energy you may not make it as far down as you wanted. Of course if you are solo-ing you don't have much choice.
When you rez you loose 30% of your heat, but if someone rezzes you they get that lost heat. On early floors this may no mean much, but in the lower floors this can be a good chunk of heat. That can be more than enough incentive for me to rez someone since I've been slowly experimenting with different equipment and leveling can be painful. Also there are many times when I'm with only one other person and we tend to rez each other so that there is no net heat loss.
Next floor rezzing sounds similar to the Left 4 Dead style of things, where dead survivors are spawned again at the start of each level with low life. It can work very well if you don't have the resources to rez someone. What are the penalties with this though? I would think that you don't get to keep any drops since you didn't complete the floor, otherwise you could have people with less than 3 bars purposely dying to get the health boost.

If you are dead when your party reaches the elevator you will not get any heat.
If your equipment is all leveled up already it doesn't matter that much though.
>As for rezzing on the next floor, I think players with less than 3 bars of health should be bumped up to 3 bars of health on the next floor, too.
I'm not sure if that happens or not now, but I don't think it does.
I agree strongly with this. In L4D, you respawned at the start of the next stage if you were dead when a stage ended. You got a decent amount of HP, but if you were below that amount when finishing a stage, your HP remained the same. This encouraged players to suicide at the very end of stages if they were below the respawn amount. There should be no situation under which the player should ever be encouraged to suicide.
I can see that happening in Spiral Knights easily. "Wait. I'm at 1 HP. Let me go find some spikes before we go to the next floor."
You can easily point out that the player will not keep heat or consumables if dead, but that still doesn't eliminate situations where it is beneficial to suicide. What if the player has maxed gear, no capsules or useful vials, and less than 3 HP? Better find those spikes.
>Energy should be used when the whole party dies, since they bring you back to full health and they cost money, they're more like continues than rezzes.
I'd like to see a little game over style screen when you die instead of just a thunderbolt sound. Maybe some depressing music.
I also kind of like this idea, too.

"There should be no situation under which the player should ever be encouraged to suicide."
Hah! We had exactly this discussion yesterday. :]
If you decide to suicide, you're weak! just go to there with you half bar and kill that vog!..now, talking seriously...games that let you do this kind of abuse generally reduces the dificult of the next level, and should be avoided..
I think Energy rezzing should be a last resort.
Health sharing should be the primary way to rez, simply because giving everyone the option to pay energy to rez and get back into action before a friend with 20 bars of health can run over to revive you seems a bit... Money grubby, I suppose.
Energy should be used when the whole party dies, since they bring you back to full health and they cost money, they're more like continues than rezzes.
