Two newbie questions

Derp. I reread some articles on the Wiki and answered my first question regarding defensive stats. So then,

I think I'm going to use a Cold Iron Vanquisher, Argent Peacemaker, and Grey Owlite Shield with either the Vog Cub or Skolver coat and cap. I think I would rather have the +damage from the Skolver, but it seems like having more elemental defense from the Vog Cub might be better. I've seen a lot of people recommending the Vog Cub, but not sure why exactly. Anyone know which setup would be more beneficial?
