The game heavily favors defense against normal and elemental damage right now. Are there plans to add content or tweak the armors in such a way that the other armor sets will be more useful?
Crafting something like a piercing/elemental defense set would be damn near suicide right now since almost everything does normal damage, and there are barely any enemies (not to mention maps) that have enemies with piercing/shadow damage. Even the ones that do end up attacking with normal attacks most of the time like slimes and zombies.
Future plans for damage types?

Kyou, are you running tier 3
Kyou, are you running tier 3 content? They have it set up so that specialized damage becomes more prevalent as you go deeper. T1 is all normal damage, T2 mobs do a mix of normal and their real, specialized damage, T3 is straight specialized damage.
I think I've done T3 runs where I've taken nothing but shadow damage, literally.
That being said, piercing damage is heavily under-used at this point.

Piercing is a little
Piercing is a little underused, but the main problem isn't that.
It is that lisks, wolvers and slimes are really really easy to avoid.
Elemental and Shadow defense are heavily favored, since only a few enemy types do much normal in T3.
Normal attacks are almost always melee, and thus easy to avoid.
they should change some normal attacks to piercing, right now too many are normal, elemental. piercing is almost non-existent.
