How did OOO go about setting up the European Server? Would setting up a server in asia be any different?

Its all about the # of players from that area. If they see a great growth of players living in Asia (Same goes for Australia) they will set up servers in this area, but if there is not real growth or potential they won't waste money to set up servers since they won't gain a positive return on it.
The game servers run on amazon? And I was wondering how did the game operator of the region agreed to host without some advertising!

Thing is, most of us tried SK just for the TF2 Sallet when it hit Steam. The intercontinental connection meant that some of the most of us didn't want to continue with such lag.
Persuading them to convert from other MMOs would be a challenge. There are guys who play for hours and SK runs on 100ME which would be spent in about 2 hours. But it's people like them who kept Maplestory running.
Not sure on how to count players in A-P. Unless OOO keeps stats?
(Just had a thought. The daily server restarts occurs at 9PM on our side. Schooling kids in my area usually hit home at about 4~6PM. Tertiary students more keen on Action-RTS games (DOTA). For me, I only get to the computer at 8pm and only start digging the clockworks after 9PM. Is it possible to restart one server and leave the others running?)
If the server restarts are just to free up memory, having them restart at different times shouldn't be any trouble. If the restarts are to install new server-side code, then servers restarts would pretty much have to occur at the same time; stuff could potentially get screwy if the servers have different code versions installed, depending on the difference between the versions.
They wrote a lot of code to figure out which server to send people to, and to sync stuff across the servers, then paid Amazon a few extra bucks to spin up an instance in one of their EU data centers.
Presumably spinning up an A-P server would be a relatively simple task at this point, it probably just depends on seeing large numbers of people there playing the game.
