The blast mark around the meteor flashes whenever one of the lichens is hit. This doesn't seem to happen when I hit the silkwings.

Also, it might be a good idea to move those two "backup" knights that you can talk to after the battle is over somewhere a bit more out of view. They seem like total jerks watching you fight all those jellies alone if they're standing right outside the gate.
