*****PRESTIGE LEADER BOARD*****

At this point in time Prestige has become a point of interest or disgust for players in the Spiral Knights realm. Some, like myself, have been doing every prestige mission available and giving away up to 4 and 5* gear (which costs a ton). Others have either chosen to ignore or boycott Prestige altogether or have found no use in the idea and have inadvertently picked up Prestige points along the way without trying for it.

Today, in a few short minutes, we will receive the first "reward" for our troubles -- Prestige Badges. Not sure what that means nor how cool they may or may not be, so no comment at this time.

What I would like to have, and I am wondering if anyone else agrees/disagrees, is a ***Prestige Leader Board***. I'm tired of "inspecting" people trying to see how much prestige he/she has -- especially when a lot of players don't even have "full-inspect" mode on. My troubles to gather prestige at this point have been all in faith that OOO will deliver something cool for giving away so much time, energy and crowns. I think it is a rather small request to grant us a leader board to be able to see how we measure up with other players. It would also help players to find other players at similar rankings and possibly skill-level.

Lastly, at this point in time, it seems like Prestige points are mainly for bragging rights. If so, as I write this my character has 15,980 Prestige.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Juances 20 Mist -- Good Point

Juances -- You make a good point -- every 13.5 minutes (or so) we get 1 free mist. In a number of hours it adds up, but it takes some time to do so. To turn around and use 20 Mist every single day (30 during the cake-celebration) to run repetitive depths can be taxing depending on your end goals in the game. If we had a better idea of what is to come it may be more enticing to continue sparing that mist to gain a bit more prestige.

Thank you for your reply!

suggestions move - thanks!

Sorry about putting this in General Discussion -- didn't see the Forum thread for "Suggestions" -- thanks for placing it in the right area. :D

Eh...

I dunno about this. I personally don't have the energy to spare on 4* and 5* equipment to give away every 4 days or whatever. The way I see it, a Prestige Leader Board would simply show who the richest players are.

Another issue I'm seeing with this is that once someone's topping the board, they'll maintain that position as long as they do the Prestige Missions each day. It's impossible to catch up to or surpass that person otherwise, since everyone receives basically the same amount of prestige by completing the missions every day.

I would support the idea of a Prestige Badge that you receive after certain milestones, though. I think if you're able to do a lot of prestige missions, you should be able to show off that ability to some extent. Sure, everyone would probably get Prestige Badges at some point, but that in itself is a sort of status symbol showing that you've been playing for a while. It's not like we don't already have precedent for status symbols in Spiral Knights (some high-end accessories/costume items).

Schattentag -- richest players

You definitely make a good point about the people at the top basically being able to stay at the top. The difference between Prestige points for a Vanguard status player and a Defender-Elite player is very minimal -- usually 10 points for the mission runs and donations (the bigger difference comes in the gear donations -- on a day that Vanguard gives a 5* they get 300 points where a Defender-Elite will have a 4* donation and will receive only 200). So yes, being able to "top" the list would be difficult -- as far as if everything stays the same as is -- perhaps this is something that OOO could look into -- how about 1 prestige point for every FULL depth you run (for those using elevator passes it would need to be the full depth so they wouldn't spam prestige points)? I don't run a ton of depths myself nor do I use an elevator pass. Something to think about.

As to your statement about "richest players" -- I have accrued my crowns and energy over a LOT of gameplay. I don't purchase my energy with $$$. Thankfully I enjoy the game a lot and have logged a lot of hours and have met a few generous people along the way. At some point you stop needing to get new gear as you find you have all the gear you want to use. That's where the whole accessories thing comes in -- and I'm not an accessories player. Those status symbols of high-end accessories/costumes don't attract me in the least. So for me to give a 4* or 5* equipment, for now, is okay -- at some point I'll need to quit doing it as it will be too expensive for my tastes -- especially if there seems to be no reward for the trouble.

Also, during my time inspecting players I've been rather surprised by how many players are Vanguard at this point and the rather various amounts of Prestige each of them has.

Thanks for your post!

similar to Call of Duty -- and make it more rewarding

Anyone else notice how the word "Prestige" is similar to that in games such as Call of Duty: MW3? Also, the new symbol is similar to the symbols that are used in MW3. The thing is, when you play MW3 your guy levels up and has more of an advantage than other players due to prestige. So far Prestige in Spiral Knights has granted no extra "edge" to your character.

Another thought -- perhaps Prestige levels can be used to make Shadow Lair access somehow easier to attain or less expensive?

Haha, I've not paid any real money myself - I just haven't gotten to that point where I have all the equipment I want. My biggest problem is that I want my arsenal to be extremely varied, so I have tons of 4* equips and a few 5* things that I switch between from time to time. I've also burned through a lot of the crowns I've ground up on some of those limited-time accessories, because my biggest obstacle in acquiring my end-game equipment right now is simply finding a proper time to get together with some of my friends to do Shadow Lairs. As such, I don't have a whole lot to work toward in-game at the moment, so I figured I'd get a little taste of the high life in Spiral Knights.

Regarding the bit of prestige granted upon reaching an elevator, it seems like a somewhat viable means of (for lack of a better word) balancing out the prestige imbalance. If someone really cares about being the top on the leader board, they can just burn up a bunch of energy or get an Elevator Pass to grind up those prestige points.

Schattentag Lairs of Shadow

Yep, I know what you mean about wanting a varied arsenal. It can be really handy to tailor your gear to different scenarios. And the "load-outs" tab comes in very handy for having them always available quickly. Accessories can definitely be fun -- I love seeing the variety in SK and how people choose to present their character.

As to burning up the depths to grind up prestige points -- OOO seems to have done a pretty good job of making each depth take about the same amount of time as any other depth (unless you're in FSC in which they can take a while). Even tearing up a depth as fast as you can still takes time. I believe players who would try to do this -- for 1 prestige at that -- would burn-out rather quickly and go back to just playing the game to play the game. Also, getting through depths faster usually requires being with friends or a group and I haven't found too many players trying to simply rip through the depths and skipping all the goodies along the way. You'd either get stuck waiting for the others to catch up at a "group-button" or you'd get kicked (if you didn't start the party). But yeah... if someone would want to do that -- I'd pat him or her on the back and say "More power to you! Go get that prestige!" :D

Prestige!

doesn't prestige mean ("reputation or influence arising from success, achievement, rank, or other favorable attributes.") so we got prestige badges, but do they actually do anything besides to show how long we have been grinding away to get those prestige points. as of now, it doesn't influence any in-game content.

so i was thinking of a way it can affect a part of the game but doesn't let OOO lose any sort of profit from it. A way for that would be for players with high prestige to get a high chance of getting rare drops. This way, the players who already have the badges wont feel like the badge is all for show and that they don't get much to do with it besides that. i think getting material drops is something harmless because we hardly see a material on auction that cost thousand and thousands of crowns.

i am creating this thread here because i don not want to start a new one and cause spam.
