As a personal repair tech to vanaduke, i've dealt with endless smashed laptops.
But i've also had more laptops that have suffered extensive freeze damage, or have been turned to swiss cheese because of blitz needles. This has really eaten into vanadukes paycheck, as you notice the reduced payout when doing those levels...
He comes to me in tears people... He has no way to feed his entire kingdom because of these constant repairs.
Ever think.... Of maybe just leaving the poor guy alone for a day, instead of going down and smashing his stuff? Really, the guy just wants a hug...

Last time I tried to give him one he stunlocked me and burned me to death. :( I even hid my blitz!

It's very possible he took your approach as hostile, seeing as how EVERYONE goes down there to smash his stuff. Those boxes? Supplies to rebuild the citadel. Those lamps? The only working light since the ceiling collapsed.
Those baricades? To keep his hired repairmen safe.
And then you all go kill his repairmen... Which costs him even more money!
He might have a little more luck if he didn't put some of his "repairmen" outside where the spiked wheels are rolling.
And by the way, what is it with villians? If Vanaduke really wanted to keep people out, he'd just put a Key behind a locked door at the start, so nobody could get to it. It's kind of like Dr. Wily not making every Robot Master stage one huge pit of spikes and nothing else, or Ganondorf not going into a dungeon and hiding all the Keys in his own dungeon. I think Vanaduke is some kind of masochist, just like Dr. Wily.
Isn't it obvious who Vanaduke is on the forums? Kitteh Softpaws... pssh come on now, what player would have such a mediocre name like that!
But... He is in FSC... why doesn't his laptop overheat? or did he get shiver'd so often that he is icey now?
He stole the sprites, and uses them to power his liquid cooling system.

After all the beating he's got, it is plausible that he'd choose such a pansy name.
And besides, his laptop would be super-resistant to fire.. I mean, he's not as dumb as to get an inflammable one... or place wheels so that they can be destroyed... or leave his supply boxes all around the place... or leave the sprites and their well alive... or put elevators in his kingd- okay maybe he is.

I would like to think he is in fact playing SK, perhaps in the circular nature of the world he is doing Vana right now... atleast when he loses, he also wins!
And infinite number of Vanas are playing SK and beating their game's Vanas while those Vanas are doing the same. The recursion goes forever.
