PS: Yes, the first picture is just the arcade, but what's with the gates? Error? Second picture is labeled, "The Core" but it looks like there's an entrance hatch. Which leads to the question, "What's INSIDE the core? I thought the core already WAS inside - of the Cradle - so why is there more?"

The arcade picture is one of the old designs of gates. By then, stratums didn't exist, and minerals created specific types of levels, such as Crimsonite creating arenas or Valestone creating Jigsaw Valley. You can see the coloured bars representing the levels.
And The Core one is simply the background featured in the "The Core - The Path is Sealed" map. That is indeed just the "entrance". I believe some of the NPCs found on that map can offer more info on it.
my guess is that its old artwork. concept art or something. don't think it means anything at all.
