Accessories over Content

So I brought this up in another thread, but no one seemed to notice, so I thought I'd try and get some opinions.

I feel like Three Rings is relying on promotional accessories over new content. And yet it's hard to blame them when the playerbase eats them up. Why spend the time and effort developing new content (monsters, weapons, levels, etc) when you can spend a couple of hours creating an accessory that people will spend $100 or more just to have a chance at getting. That's right, it's not even guaranteed, you simply have a chance.

The latest promotion seemed quite popular, and I've no doubt it was a huge success for Three Rings. At the end of the day, though, after you've spent your hard earned dollars and fought to get something shiny to show off while others look on jealously, you're still in Haven. With nothing new to do. Except maybe grind in preparation for the next promotion.

You said it before, but did you read the responses before?

This promotion was accompanied by the opening of the testing server to preview the first of a new line of challenge missions, as well as new lockdown maps. The devs have been pretty explicit that we should expect more such content to follow, and not long ago Nick made a detailed post with promises that are beginning to be fulfilled.

Meanwhile, desirable accessory promotions provide a quick fix to reduce the price of CE; prices on the exchange are a very frequent complaint for new players in particular.

You know what? If they gave me a crest with 3 blue diamonds on it, I'd be okay with that.

"abloo bloo bloo" - A Concerned Player

I've noticed many players from a group of people who have failed to note or realize that accessories, flair and minor events are relatively simple to make and release. They keep the playerbase occupied, remind them the devs are alive, momentarily suppress inflation, etc -- allowing time for the devs to actually make the content that everyone wants.

It's amazing, but developers are known to be able to work on multiple things at once.

It's a personal pet peeve of mine to see the forums flooded with "HUR DUR THE DEVS AREN'T MAKING NEW CONTENT/BALANCING EVERYTHING/MAKING MY PET FANTASY BECAUSE THEY'RE MAKING TEAM HATTRESS 2.0" posts, supported by armchair programmers with their "well, it shouldn't be hard to simply program the core opening, balance all items and monsters and overhaul the in-game economy; I took a programming class in middle school and it didn't seem so hard".

Have patience. Starting a rabble over a problem that doesn't exist is a fruitless endeavor.

@Ysser

It's not like the game has been in development for well over three years or anything.

I wouldn't even have a problem with them taking their time if the amount of content they added to the game wasn't equal to the amount of content they unnecessarily removed.

You are completely correct

Yes, OOO spent the last months making a few of crowns, auras and tails.
