I was a big fan of Legion of Almire. I felt it was a fair, but challenging mission that gave you a lot to focus on, but plenty of ways to deal with what it threw at you.

Compound 42 on the other hand was uh... insane, for lack of a better term. I felt personally that this mission was far too difficult, and not necessarily in the right way some of the time.

First of all, the new monsters mostly seemed fine. I don't have any particular criticisms with the monsters themselves. The new Toxic Oilers were the biggest challenge of the bunch, but overall I am fine with them. It's just their oil that caused trouble... Other than that, not much to say about the monsters at this point. I'll just go straight to my main suggestions:

- I feel the poisonous oil absolutely must be changed. The oil that lies absolutely EVERYWHERE is just too much. The main issue with it is how it poisons you and how this snares your shield. The most important change I feel is that your shield must NOT get caught on the oil. The way it is now, if you're near some oil, it's near impossible to escape.
- Also about the oil, perhaps reduce the amount of time it is on the ground.
- Make it so the oil doesn't reset the poison timer every time you step in another patch of oil. You're pretty much just permanently poisoned, the way it is right now. I'd like it if it was made it so it only can repoison you once the previous timer has reached 0.
- Reduce the amount of sources of fire. Maybe remove some of the shadow fire and especially the fire spewing cannons. It'd also be good if the speed or rate of fire of the fire cannons was reduced as well.
- Make remedy capsules more common.

Those are the main things I think should be addressed... now, the things I liked were:

- The look and concept of the level is very cool.
- The final battle was fun, if chaotic.
- It was definitely... dangerous. And I do like that, it was just too much I think.
- It was nice to see Mortafire Gremlins used in another place than Operation Crimson Hammer

Overall, I can see this being a really fun and challenging mission, but right now it's just a little too brutal I feel. And the main cause for that, imo, is the poison and the oil that causes it. I do not want to say I disliked the mission as I can see a lot of potential and I feel it is definitely well made. Just... too crazy, in my opinion.

Great feedback, you only have

Great feedback, you only have one error.

[edit]

Try using a pure white laurel with 2 pieces of armor that grant poison resistance. It makes you immune to oil poison!

Yeah I just tried that, good job on finding that out. It certainly does make it a lot easier... The only major issue I came across now was how the fire seems to stunt your visibility. But at least now I know there's a way to be immune to it as well as the poison, if they keep that ability in.

One other suggestion I would like to make is that the bosses seem a bit too... simplistic. Sure, the polyps will give you some trouble, but the actual bosses don't seem to actually do... anything. The giant gremlin (Herex?) just seems to be a scorcher, but bigger, and you pretty much just beat on him until he's dead, and the giant oiler seems very slow with no real tricks up its sleeve. It's ironic, to complain about this bit being too easy when the rest is so hard, but I would like to see the "bosses" be a bit more of an active threat.

Yeah, it currently makes it a

Yeah, it currently makes it a bit too easy except people may die due to a few cheap attacks every now and then.

Lit oil lighting up and hiding oilers that do their melee spin attack which has a ridiculously large range, etc etc.

Also, the same immunity can be done to lit oil. Add in a soaking whetstone and there is no longer fire from the lit oil, making you entirely immune to oil.

+1 on what you liked, I

+1 on what you liked, I really liked those elements too.

I have an issue with this poison stuff. I will try again with the immunity. But here's the question: if Immunity is so simple, then why have it at all? It's like this whole level is designed then to make people make poison max sets to breeze through. Would make more sense to lower the presence of poison, but make it impossible to be immune. Tone down the poison while at the same time making everyone suffer, not just the people who are using weapon gear instead of resist gear.
