Hi I'm LordKoumori :) I have always enjoyed writing and I've always wanted to try writing a fanfic so I though "Hey how about Spiral Knights? That's a pretty cool game" so here it is :) The title doesn't make much sense now but if I do get far with this you'll understand (I think ahead a lot)
The story starts with a high ranking squad lost on the planet surface after the crash of Skylark. The tale takes place from the eyes of the squad leader Morius. Their journey takes them to deep into the heart of the clockworks and they learn the shocking truth about The Crimson Order and the true reason for their existence.
The sound of the alarm still echoed in my head. The Skylark had crashed and the only reason me and my friends had survived was thanks to the escape pod. I picked up my blade Faust and turned to my comrades. Rex looked at me and grimaced.
“Kyle won’t last much longer Morius.” He whispered to me so Kyle couldn’t hear. “We need to get him medical attention. He won’t make it through another night.”
I sighed. “Do you think Maria’s seen any other survivors?”
Rex shrugged and turned back to Kyle, who’s iron plated armour which had been torn apart by beastly claws. I cursed. I saw the beast leaping at him and, if I had tried hard enough, could have prevented it trying to maul him. All I could remember of it was the deadly red eyes on its blackened skin. It managed to escape before we could get at it, but by then Kyle had taken too much damage.
“Morius! Rex!”
I turned to see Maria running down the hill towards us.
“Did you see any survivors?” I asked.
She smiled. “Better, there’s a camp of survivors to the south with medical supplies and defences.”
“Do they have booze?” Kyle moaned from the floor.
Rex grinned. “Good to see you talking buddy. I’d punch you for worrying us but that might put you in a more dire situation.”
Kyle chuckled. “Well it’s better than being in the stomach of a wolf.”
“Big wolf.” I muttered. “We better get going if we want to be there by sundown.”
Rex and I put Kyle’s arms over our shoulders and hoisted him up while Maria gathered our gear.
“Lead the way.” Rex grinned.
We followed Maria at a slow pace and we began to understand the dire situation we were in on this planet. At the top of the hill, we could see the landscape spread before us, much more bizarre than our home planet. The grassy plains we stood on abruptly in a straight line to the east with a different landscape beyond it and to the west the land just stopped with a gap in the planet’s surface.
“What is this place?” Kyle muttered
None of us knew. Was this a punishment for us? Were we even meant to be here? It was the impossible question that had been on our minds since the crash.
“I think someone’s coming for us.” Rex remarked.
A group of cobalt knights were running up the hill towards us, one of them carrying a litter for wounded knights. Kyle grunted. He wasn’t the kind of person to admit a flaw and being considered too injured to walk was an insult to him.
“Ma’am!” One of the knights ran up to Maria and saluted. “What squad do we have the pleasure of finding?”
“We’re Sapphire Squad. One of our knights has been injured and we need medical supplies.”
The knight nodded and called over his friends Kyle hesitated but me and Rex dumped him on the litter.
“If you can get up and walk, do it yourself.” He laughed.
Kyle scowled and crossed his arms but allowed the knights to carry him on the litter, with Rex laughing at his face.
Maria stood next to me. “Did you see what this planet is?”
I nodded. “This isn’t a natural planet.”
She grimaced. “Worse. That wasteland to the east, that’s wasn’t there when I came up the hill earlier.”
I looked at her. “What?”
“This isn’t a planet…” She muttered “It’s too unnatural.”
Looking around I had to agree with her. The land looked real enough but the transfer from landscape to landscape was too instant. I frowned.
“What do you think this plane-“
“Shh” I whispered. “We’re being watched.”
Glancing behind us, we could see the glint of sunlight off a pair of binoculars.
“Friend or foe?” She muttered, gripping her blade.
I shook my head. “We’re not going to find out.”
Maria chuckled. “Not like you. Worried?”
“You didn’t help me with this conversation.” I muttered .
Maria laughed and gave me a peck of the cheek. “I try my best.” And laughing she ran off after the others.
I turned towards the place I saw the glint. The plains were devoid of life. So where had the beasts that attacked us come from? Using my foot, I dug away at the dirt beneath my feet and sure enough Mari’s suspicions were confirmed. The floor beneath the dirt was solid steel and upon the steel was a red logo of a spanner upon a clockwork gear.
