Sorry if this is a stupid question but it seems like the best idea would be to mix and match sets so that you can have piercing, normal, elemental and shadow defense? Or do you just want a lot of 2 of them? Thanks

Oh, and shadow resist is fairly good in moderation. Zombies and whatnot, but not a lot of pieces do so while fitting the same asthetic as vog cub or salamander. There's always trinkets!

Why aren't shadow and piercing needed? And Vog Cub is only elemental/normal once it reaches 5* so should i just keep what i have for now until i can afford it?

From what I hear, nothing in t3 does piercing outside of spikes, thorn bushes, jelly specials and _maybe_ some of the wolver attacks. Shadow defense is also pretty good, but Elemental generally gets thrown out more often.
It won't take you painfully long to get Vog Cub set once you hit t3, especially with the ridiculous number of merchants selling the pieces. I'd say just stick with it, it'd take more time and effort to get something else in the interim.

My setup...
My armor setup with my uv's gives me the following Defense:
Normal, Elemental, Piercing, and Shadow =) It covers all aspects leaving me pretty strong against all types =).
I personally, think that as of right now people may say you only need elemental and normal defense or w.e like that I am sure these developers will make it when that setup becomes obsolete so always work on something new never know when it will become handy, and if it ends up useless well hey its a new costume for you =).
