{{ Guild T3 Lockdown Tournament }} ~~ Sponsored by The Jempire

~~~~~ Intro ~~~~~
Oh no! Another GLD tournament? Yes, I’m sorry to say it but yes, this IS another GLD tourney. Inspired to avenge the epic fail that was the SK Olympics Guild Lockdown Tournament, I (Screamingnutz) have decided to finally pursue a personal goal by creating a GLD tournament that will not fail as the countless others have. Just as before, The Jempire will be sponsoring this event and a similar system will be issued. How will mine be any different? Well after analyzing the other GLD tournaments from before, I’ve changed several aspects to ensure the success of this tournament. Key things such as scheduling and rulings are being focused on to prevent confusion. So I hope we will get many participants to help create a great community event in an effort to achieve more bragging rights :)
~~~~~ How it will work ~~~~~
-There will be 2 divisions for this tournament; a US division and an EU division. This avoids the connection problems and allows us to determine the best guild in either server. At the end, there will be a face off between the 2 champions.
- Once scheduling has been figured out, a preliminary Round Robin will take place in order for seeding.
- Once all the data from seeding has been obtained, a bracket will be created for the actual tournament.
- It will be a SINGLE ELIMINATION tournament.
- Several days (2-3) before the match, a mail will be sent out to the GMs reminding them of their upcoming match.
- This will be a 5v5 tournament. The 6th player will be a referee of sorts. One inactive player (Of my choice and with no relation to the guild) will sit in the locker room to monitor the deaths and revives of players. This prevents the use of CE revives (refer to Rules section).
- Each team will be given a one (1) hour time frame around the set time (30 min before, 30 min after) to gather a team. If the team can not participate, they will lose the round.
- Each round is a best 2-out-of-3. This prevents the excuse of lag or a general bad day. For those of you who don't know, this means that you will play until one team has 2 wins. First to 2 points is the winner.
- Teams will be given up to 10 minutes between games to swap players.
~~~~~ Rules ~~~~~
1) Have fun. Although this is essentially for bragging rights (and the other prizes that will be issued), it's always important to remember that this is still a video game and should therefore be a fun and enjoyable experience.
2) NO CE REVIVING!!! UVs may be a game changer, but on top of that it should be fair for teams with high amounts of CE rich players to continuously return, creating an unfair advantage against teams who don't have such players. CE reviving will result in a 30 second penalty. If the player does not comply with the penalty, the team will be disqualified.
3) NO borrowing players. Borrowing amazingly amazing players in order to gain advantages is incredibly cheap and down right wrong. Don't do it, that's why I made GMs send me a list of players.
~~~~~ How to enter ~~~~~
1) Find a guild (DUH)
2) Have the GM (please ONLY the GM) mail ScreamingNutz in-game with the subject: “GLD Tourney” the contents of the mail should include the guild name, general time zone of players, server (EU or NA), and a list of the TOP TEN (10) PLAYERS who will participate on the team.
3) Wait for a response from me
4) Cry if denied (limited spaces, sorry) or prepare for an all out battle to become the best of this era of LD.

~~~~~ FAQ ~~~~~
1) Is The Jempire participating? NO, they wanted to give everyone a fair chance. They also found it a little redundant since they are giving away the prizes.
2) Does the player list have to be sent in now? No, I prefer to have it once all teams are ready.
3) How will prizes be distributed? They will be given to the main GM of the team then it will be up to them to share the winnings.
Lemme guess.
The Jempire didn't participate because of the claims?
@atrum No, it's because they want to give everyone else a fair chance. They don't usually participate in these events anyways, Ruby likes to see how these community events go.
Wth? How do you sponsor a guild LD tourny? Jempire isn't a company. Its a guild... A virtual, in game guild.
How will you enforce the no ce rev rule
A sponsorship does not have to be from a company. Though it is extremely unlikely that after bighondo forever-quit we will be able to get a team together, I'd be happy to do something like this if it lines up with my real-life obligations. However, I'm not really sure if this is a no-holds-barred thing, or if you guys plan to actually have restrictions, etc. As for other stuff, a five point map with five players doesn't seem like a great idea. Also, I'd recommend making frostbite a non-used map since it gives a vast advantage to those with high-end systems.
Not speaking for my guild here, just expressing intrest. And I really don't see how winning a single tournament makes you "the best of this era of LD".
@Tmdals, Thrill gave me the idea to place a referee in each team just to monitor the revs. It shouldn't be too hard to see patterns, that weird blue mist flash and the sound are also very distinct and noticeable.
@Addisond, I see no need to restrict certain maps since a five-point map would just add equal difficulty to either side, and frostbite is a lame "Ermahgerd lag" map which is why there is a best 2-out-of-3 system. Also, if this tournament ends up successful, it would be the only guild lockdown tournament in several months to actually not fail. Other tournaments had failed due to lack of attention to detail and lack of scheduling.
"Lemme guess.
The Jempire didn't participate because of the claims?"
Have you ever played against The Jempire's best teams in Guild Lockdown?
Edit: Screaming posted already. Oops.
I was thinking because of those, people, and the "Thingy....".....
The fact they wouldn't want any of that ranting....
Aplogies.
I don't like the fact that one person has the power to decide who sits out to watch the revs. Can't the team decide?
^ I think he meant he gets to choose a person that is reliable and not affiliated with the playing team to be the ref. If you think about it, why would a player be allowed to ref his/her own team.
And what do you mean Jemps want to give other teams a fair chance. I don't know if I'm reading it wrong but it sounds like Jempire is saying that in a condescending tone, like "wed obvs win, no1 stends a chanc".
@Tennis, Im only repeating what Ruby had told me.
Well, ask him what he meant then.
I know guilds can be cocky but that's sort of crossing the line. Insulting every team out there doesn't seem like a great way to kick start a community event, especially one that you guys are hosting...
Wait, are you (Screamingnutz) in the Jempire? I hope you are, or my argument doesn't matter as much, and I like arguing. :P
@Tennis, he said they wouldn't participate since they were fairly confident that they would win and that their entry would most likely scare away smaller guilds. Also, I'm not in Jempire, I'm in Rigorous. Ruby just offered to sponsor like how they did in that other GLD tourney.
Several things:
Is it a single elimination tournament? If so, is there going to be a bronze place match? How will the seeding work?
Have Ruby state the actual prizes early on, so people don't lose interest later and drop out. (Experience)
How will the seeding work?
Also, advertise this through haven trade chats for more attention. If people don't like the annoying trade chat advertisements, they can always just ignore you temporarily, so that shouldn't matter. (Experience)
Another tip: Have the Jempires participate. This allows other guilds to get some motivation and be determined to destroy the guild that claims the top #1 spot in Guild LD very often. With no Jempires, people will be like "Oh. Well if I can't fight the best of the best and see them defend their title, this will be lame then." I'd say the main point of tournaments is for the leaders to defend their title and prove if they're the real deal. With the many speculations about "Oh the Jempires suck because they rev rev rev, blah blah blah", I'd say this is the chance for the Jempires to prove they are still the top even without reviving. (Experience)
And, have a designated meeting place for everybody to gather so you can head count, know who is who, etc, before you send the teams into guild LD. (Experience)
Final thought: If you ever plan to hire any hosts, make SURE they actually DO what they're told to DO. (Experience)
^ Just my tips on your success :)
@Zader I'll talk to you in game, got some more questions for you since you've hosted several events :)
Nutz, you should edit your OP to clarify that the referees are to be a 3rd parties not involved with the tournament, invited into participating guilds temporarily as a way to monitor for revives and also record official scores. Obviously having someone from the same guild act as a referee is not going to prevent dishonest reviving.
In the event that someone accidentally revives out of reflex, the referee's job would be to note the time on the clock at which it occurs, add a 30 second penalty (the max timer I think is 24s, so rounding up for simplicity) and declare over /game chat the player's name and time at which they are allowed to leave the locker room.
I too would like to see the Jempire participate under a somewhat more regulated playing field. Given the lengths at which they have attempted to defend themselves from accusations of being reliant on CE revives, one would think that given an opportunity to prove otherwise, they would step up to the challenge rather than condescendingly dismiss every other guild, as Tennis pointed out.
Also, Nutz, what do you think about having a round robin where every team plays each other once or twice for seeding, and then creating a best of 7 series for playoff rounds?
@Thrill, several things:
1) I've edited the OP
2) That's seems like a better idea than my original "One warning then disqualified" idea (Yes, I know it was harsh).
3) Ugh, due to multiple requests, I will ask Ruby to participate next time I see him online.
4) I dislike the Round Robin idea, it adds a few complications here and there that I dont feel like handling. I'd rather make it a double elimination tournament just as I had originally planned when I first thought of this idea.
5) Dafuq do you guys mean by seeding? (Sorry I r teh nubzorz xD)
Why say they're sponsoring? ._. They arnt famous or anything.
Its Just like how Shadow Overlords was the sponsor of the 1v1 Tournament. Its no big deal its just... yea.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seed_%28sports%29
Read up.
It's important because a strong team that might otherwise finish 2nd or 3rd can get knocked out in the first round of a tournament if they are randomly matched up with another strong team.
Having a preliminary round robin would be like having a "regular season" to determine rankings for the "play-off" elimination round.
@Thrill, Hm... Interesting. I'll try to arange something.
In other news, a schedule will be up soon with certain deadlines and such. Also, I have appointed Zaderules as my co-host. He will be helping me set this up with his past experience :)
I'm not much of the troller but I'm a little offended that Ruby would think that way, because I actually remembered the "best Jempire" team that didn't ce rev all the time. I still find that strat fun to play against, but an actual tourny with no ce rev rules and the jemps don't want to play because they they want to "give" other guilds a chance? You know what seperates the jemps from finesse or apathy or those other titled "best guild" is that I actually wanted to play against them cause of their over talented skill. They made smaller guilds like GW better. So if you guys think not participating is helping out the smaller guilds you're completely wrong.
I'm not trying to disrespect the Jemps cause we've had some really amazing GLD matches back in the day. CE rev is a strat in my eyes so I don't hate it or anything. I just think it's completely arrogant that you guys want to "give" other guilds a chance... I'll gladly try my hardest to get the old GW crew back to play the old "Best (Better) Jempire team" in this tourney.
All I can say is Finesse 130+ win streak...them closing shop was honestly allowing other guilds to try Ld.
I would join in a heartbeat if it weren't for three things:
1: College freshman has homework. Nuff said.
2: The only weapon I had that so much as made Strikers think "uh oh, better try and dodge this" is now an overly polished turd. Yes, as bad as it is for PvE, it's even more terrible for Lockdown. Utter garbage. No more Sharding, none of the hilarious ISB sniping either. At least ISB is decent for slimes...
3: Shock UVs. No, a double Max UV should not make you immune to that electrified cloud of doom. You should need trinkets (or, alternatively, a REAL Shockproof suit) to even think about being immune. I say SHOULD because it is SHOULD, if a weapon could possibly be COMPLETELY USELESS for no reason other than Punch was ****** off at bombers that day, why even bother with it?! Why even bother programming it?!
2 and 3 would be no problem if there was a T2 tourney (my trusty Grintovec would see me through). There isn't. And I would join if the invinciframes (the lousy weapon-wimpifying invinciframes) were still as they should be: GONE. They weren't. DR is still useless garbage in LD. Cutter is still useless garbage in LD. Blitz is still useless garbage in LD. (Hey, Nick, you said you like Blitz? That's some flying bull right there.)
Yes, I used this as an opportunity to rant about Shock UVs. No, I don't care if that's off-topic. Yes, bringing a mainly bomber loadout is now a losing condition. Sad. I think Three Rings is just paranoid about bombs since they were so uber-powerful when they had a standard attack, but that's just a theory.
...Okay, rant over.
since when is PS signed in for an LD tournament. i do not know who registered us lol
@Timb, I talked to Angerday and he asked around, said you guys would be fine. If anything, talk to him about it. On that note, would you like to enter Perfect Storm with YOUR consent? xD
Welp. That schedule was short lived. Due to a dispute about servers I'm pushing back ALL schedules until I can get this sorted out.
Have you tried using Cold Snap? Freezing Ice Queens and Skolvers never gets old.
I have. It never gets old.
But it is a bit irritating that a 0* bomb does a better job at inflicting status than a 5* bomb.
My guild has few LD pros,but they all play T2 :(
Oh,no CE rev?*mist rev*
It's not that we think we're above everybody. We're not.
It's that we think we're above the numerous Jempire haters/ragers, who we believe will be abound in this tournament *no matter what we do,* CE reviving (which we usually only do in neck to neck matches, which are few and far between nowadays) or not.
Is that wrong?
P.S. I don't speak as an official representative of The Jempire.
In any case, we'd love to help host this one :) Many of us do enjoy playing lockdown!
@Entro, Dammit a loop-hole ;___; But seerusly tho, we all know I meant no energy revs in general..... Right?
@Entendue, I'm not accepting other hosts, sorry. But Ruby offered to have the Jempire sponsor it, although he's the only person I see sponsoring.
@Zed/Doc/Derp, I want to see someone use cold snap in this tournament. LOL
I'm in the guild known as The Jempire.
Edit: How did my previous posts make sense without knowing that ;o;
@Entendue, I knew you were in Jempire. Just thought you were offering to sponsor separately since Ruby might have not told your guild xD
In other news, I NEED MORE US GUILDS >.< the EU division has become massive and with many more to come too. Cmon US players, come join the fun :D
How are you going to let the US and EU guilds battle it out?
@Ranger, I plan on just having the champs from either side battle it out.
I still need more US guilds :/ seerusly guys, I know there are some major guilds out there, come test yourselves against our contestants.
Hey Screamingnutz.. Any news on how this is progressing? Also with the new LD spectator mode this will be even more fun. Let us know if you need some extra help with the arrangements.. p.s. I have an idea for you:
For the US/EU final battle.. how about
Go on US server first, teams play: 5 US v 5 EU, then 4 US v 5 EU, then 3 US v 5 EU,... and so on. Keep going until the EU team wins (record how many were in the opponent team when they did e.g. say, 3.
Go to the EU server next and do the same thing and record how many were in the EU team when the US team won.
The overall winner is the team who fought off the higher number of opponents in their NON-HOME server.
If both teams do the same, a tie could be declared or you could just repeat until there is a clear winner.
Anyways - hope that helps
For anybody wondering, The Jempire is NOT participating. They are only sponsoring us :)
