There are so, so, so many threads on this. For example, just yesterday one was started in New Recruits. Please just search the forums.
Unless things have changed, the boss levels. If you can kill the boss without using CE, do so and trade the tokens for gear to merchant or vendor.
I have not played in the interest of making crowns, so things may have changed.
