The explorer pack and the starter pack both look good. Which one do most knights prefer for a casual newbie player?

Starter packs are pretty much the best thing a newbie could buy to convert money into in-game value. Elevator pass if you're addicted and going to play all day. I would advise against ever buying an explorer pack as it's one of the poorer deals.
