Stunlocked because of energy exchange/menu dropdown
I posted this in general discussion, but perhaps it belongs here instead.
I really wish that the energy exchange, along with every other mouse clickable item on the main screen, were put behind a keyboard shortcut. The amount of times that I have been massively hurt/killed when these menu items come up is too numerous to count.
There is no reason to buy energy in the clockworks unless you're dead or salivating over something in an energy paygate. In either of those circumstances, hitting an F key or somesuch is perfectly acceptable. Being mauled to death by a devilite because my mouse strayed into the far corner does not make me enjoy this game at all.
Pretty much every action/FPS game I've ever played has been configured this way. Mouse is for aimin' and shootin' and killin'. Everything else, from reloading guns to using health pills, is done with the keyboard. Can this change please be considered?
Does the UI shrink when you lower your screen resolution or not?
I'm asking because I have never experienced this problem before, but I'm always able to play at a high resolution.
If the UI doesn't shrink, perhaps letting it shrink along with lower resolutions would help a lot aswell?
No. The UI is fixed pixel count. Lower screen resolutions makes a bigger percentage of the real estate the UI elements.
So letting the UI shrink along with your screen resolution could be a good fix aswell? (rather than to disable several in-game functions for everybody)
I know there was another thread almost identical to this one because I said what I'm about to say again.
If your mouse is in the corner, you're moving it too much. The mouse only affects your facing. It doesn't have to go very far from your character.
That said, I don't see anything wrong with providing an option to lock the menus at times, but I can say that preventing them from being clickable outright (as the OP suggested) would be most annoying to me, especially since I rarely even play with a mouse. In the times I have used one, I've never accidentally clicked a menu.
Not quite. If you're trying to do some long distance aiming with a gun, that mouse is going to be near the edges of the screen for good targeting. And when a wolver warps behind you and starts chomping on your butt, whipping the mouse around while clicking quickly is going to result in a stunned character/energy menu/dropdown box instead of a dead wolver.
I said it earlier and I'll say it again: Every action-oriented game I've played uses the mouse for travel, aiming, and shooting. Nothing else. All other options are bound to keyboard shortcuts. Losing out to a menu interface is simply not fun.

It's happened to me a few times even on a bigger desktop screen, but I did notice it happened a lot more when I tried playing on a laptop. Admittedly I am not the greatest player, but if you have the mouse as a method to play among a few options, I don't think it's a good argument to just tell people they need to be more skilled players. I'm actually trying as hard as I can to play well and keep the pointer in that space, but when there's a mass of creatures including players that I'm confusing for myself in a huge pile of sleep mist, I'm simply not that good of a gamer. I'd like the ability to turn off mouse clicking on those things as well. Maybe I'm just a huge idiot or something, but I would like to hope that I'm not.
I'll even admit to being such an "excellent" player that I have gotten the Friends screen before in the middle of battle. That is a small circle and it takes great skill to do that!
Hmm, there could also simply be an option added to remove some of the UI that you don't quite need? As in with a small arrow to "slide" it all away to a mini bar at the sides. If you then click it once you'll only enlarge the UI part, so not immediately click it yet.
I'd just like to reiterate that this UI problem still exists in the game. I still get regularly "stunned" in the levels by dropdown menus for chatting with friends and the energy exchage depot. This usually results in death when I'm anywhere past Emberlight.
Can we please find a fix for this? It's maddening to play the game when I get stunned because I've accidentally accessed options via the mouse. It's perfectly fine to place them behind and F key of some sort, and as I've said before, every single shooter game I've ever played has used this style of interface.
I'll happily test the game and work through this, but when the game resets and releases to the public, I'm not going to be playing it if the UI still exists in this format.

well ive had this happen to me alot, same thing happens with vitapods as soon as i enter danger rooms or arenas with full health (just my luck). i dont think the f key would be a good substitute seeing i use that for my health capsules. mayb soming on the other side lets say k. lol.
By F key, I mean any of the function keys. I'd happily reassign my mouse from being able to click on these items if it were possible.
On another note, I find it ironic that the gate map, which I never accidentally access, is one of the most used items for me while in the clockworks.

We're working on adding a key you hit to lock/unlock the UI while in a gate. That makes it optional for those who don't tend to run into this problem. Hang in there!
This is wonderful. Many, many thanks!
That really helps, but for some reason it disables the use of hotkey items. I don't really want this to be an either/or thing.

Locking the hotkeys as well was a mistake, it has been fixed and ready for the next update.
We'll also move the party list down a bit to make room for the HUD locking so it doesn't overlap.
They could have keybindings, but i agree more of making then only accessible via main menu too (upper left, if someone don't remember), so it can be used via mouse to, so people with problems to memorize keybinds (like me) don't need to enter in the options every time to see wich key goes to the energy store).
