I was in a party, and this guy started saying some things which I have a hard time believing.
Energy prices were at one point 3k for ce.
You used to have a max of 1000 mist that recharges each day.
This game is 4 years old. (That I can believe)
This guy didn't have groundbreaker it seems.

Any of this true? Or is it a load of lies?

Kind of...

Energy prices were 3k at one point in time.
Not sure about the 1000 mist.
I believe the game is just over 2 years old.

Maybe misguided

CE was 3K, and you have 1000 mist that recharges instantly in Testing.

1) Yes. It is a player-run

1) Yes. It is a player-run economy, so it's not particularly surprising that it was a given amount of crowns at one point.
2) This is also true, but it was during an alpha build in '09, so it's basically irrelevant.
3) This is its 4th year since initial builds, and went live in Apr '11.

The test server has a mist gauge of 5000.

Well...

I bought my first CE for a few hundred crowns. I don't remember the exact figure, but whatever I collected crossing the chasm to Haven in the first hours of day one, I immediately sold those crowns on the market for 100 CE. Anyway, when CE was 3000ish crowns, which wasn't long but a couple months anyway, crafting prices were a mere 200CE to craft a 5* item as I recall (drastically less than today anyway.) With the current crafting costs, the price of CE immediately shot up several thousand and hasn't been back down since, but although I took a hiatus, it apparently shot up again with the introduction of the mission system and easy access to boss levels.

This is the first update that I'm aware of that will bring the price of CE down. (The Auction House introduced a crown sink, but other ways to spend CE were introduced around the same time so it ended up not making so much difference) So, anyway, the point is that while the price of CE on the market was different, the game was different in major ways that make it not really comparable.

The production game has always been 100 mist. I think beta was too, at least in the final few days when I was in it, but in beta elevators and revives were dirt cheap anyway.

...

3K : 100 CE, was definitely a possibility. Although I haven't been playing since it came out - the lowest I've seen is 5K : 100 CE.

1K Mist that recharges each day was never actually in the game. He must mean in test servers prior to the game's official release.

Finally, Spiral Knight's celebrated its FIRST Anniversary like 8 or 9 months ago. Perhaps if you count all the time of Alpha and Beta testing, it might come close to 4 years.

But the release itself is a few months shy of 2 years old.

Honk honk. Make way for the dead bunny.

1. It was 2k when Steam was introduced. Shame I only bought 100 CE, I was a cobalt noob at the time. :u
2. Nope, never happened.
3. It's only around 2 years old. At least since release. Not sure bout beta and all that.

Can I sit down? The sky keeps swirling around.

It was about 1.5k during the first day the game opened, though I can't remember for sure anymore.

Pics or It Didn't Happen

Anyone have any screenshots of the preview? I didn't start taking them until May-June 2011. You never think of these things for the sake of history until it's too late. :/

There are videos on youtube

There are videos on youtube of beta like way back in the testing. You should look at them.

I might have some screenshots from back in the day on my laptop at home. I'm at work so I can't get access to them at this moment.

It is fairly widely known

It is fairly widely known that the prices were 3k early on after the games release.
Although there hasn't appeared any validitity behind these claims, it seems reasonable from what I've seen of the market.

It's not something that needs

It's not something that needs proving, really. When the game started, prices were fair by those standards, no one had any money. 3~4k was common for quite a while. In those days, the notion of ce going to 9k was laughable and not even considered as a realistic option. Now look where we are, amazed that ce was so "cheap" back then. ce's never been cheap, s'always been market value~

Espeonage already gave all

Espeonage already gave all the correct answers with context, why are you all still posting?
