[UPDATED w/ Screenshots] The average player-maturity level is beginning to depress me

UPDATE:

I've got some (name censored) screenshots showing exactly the kind of stuff I have to put up with every time I log into Spiral Knights.

Illiterate, inconsiderate players:

Beggars:

But he didn't stop there. He was persistent!

------------------

Alright, I feel I should say something about this. After having been kicked, badgered, and begged from countless times, I'm starting to get irritated.

In this game, there are two types of players:

The good players: Generous, informative, and polite. They also have the uncanny ability to spell basic words correctly.
The bad players: Elitist, greedy, selfish, and inconsiderate.

When I used to play this game a year ago, most people fell under the "Good players" category. Back then, we didn't have a party finder and the only PvE mode in the game was Arcade, so you couldn't cherry-pick your party members. Most people generally didn't care if you were bad at the game, they either tolerated you or helped you along.

I stopped playing shortly after the Rose Regalia promotion, and I returned recently just a week before the Guild Hall update. What I found was a degenerate, hostile community.

I was never kicked, ever, when I played a year ago, and I never had to put anyone on my ignore list. Since I've returned, I've been kicked around 12 times, and my ignore list is growing daily.

I've been kicked for saying that I don't have trouble dealing with mecha-knights. I've been kicked for wearing Proto as costume armor. I've been kicked because of my personal opinions (i.e. "I don't think Candlestick Keep is hard). I've even been kicked because I picked up a green crystal instead of a red one (wtf?!).

People seem to have lost all understanding of basic English; some of the foreign players have better English than the native English speakers in this game. I get cryptic messages from people, which usually look something like this: "huy dud waht cr do u gots? i borro 3 ce plz."

Normally I can ignore those types of players and continue enjoying the game, but this most recent incident has made me realize I can't simply pretend these moronic players aren't there anymore.

I was in a KoA mission lobby, and someone was asking if someone who had mist energy could tab him, because he didn't want to use his CE. The party leader apparently saw this as a sign of inferiority, and began harrasing him and calling him things such as "begger" and "n00b". He then proceeded to say things which heavily implied that anyone and everyone who asks a favor is automatically a "n00b". That kind of arrogance pushed a few of my buttons, so I (politely!) told him to calm down, and explained that he simply didn't want to spend his CE.

What did that accomplish?

I was kicked from the party, and began recieving tell messages from him saying things such as "lmao tyou pitiflul loser teen friendless virgin, you think just because you are anonimous you can pretend you are equal to your betters" and "lmao loser, coward, and [bucket]". And so, another day passes, another idiot finds his way into my ignore list.

Please, can we all at least pretend we're intelligent, living beings, and just enjoy this game with each-other?

/rant

EDIT:

And how could I forget all the people who like to send friend and trade requests to every single last person that is unfortunate enough to pass by.

I went AFK in Haven for about 8 minutes. I came back, and suddenly I had four people wanting to be my friend and five people who made sure they were going to get a trade with me, one way or another.

/sigh /sad /frown

EDIT 2:

I see a few of you thought that the player who requested to be tabbed deserved what happened to him.

He wasn't begging. In fact, if I remember correctly, his message was something like this:

"Hey, does anyone here have mist to spare that wouldn't mind tabbing me?"
"I want to save my CE because I'm going to craft something"

That's obviously not his exact words, but it sums up pretty much everything he said. He came across as simply asking, not begging, and the party leaders reaction was completely unjustified. I'd have tabbed him if I didn't end up getting kicked.

I agree with Psychodestroyer.

I agree with Psychodestroyer. Make yourself a favor and find a nice guild with friendly people, and don't run with random strangers too often.
You'll find tons of good guilds on the recruitment section.

Unfortunately, the F2P model tends to attracts the worst type of players, those who would never pay for anything, and the low age requirement (13) is not even enforced at all (hard to blame OOO on that though), which adds a lot on the immaturity level.

But hey, there are still a lot of good players around, they just, for the majority, found a friendly guild and good friends and stopped running a lot of random groups.

P.S. : I'm not against friending either, but I'm not very responsive to SK friends, because my guildies come first, and there are a lot of them. Anyway, my in game name is the same as forum one. Please include a message though, I refuse random requests (you get a lot from beggars by just walking in Haven in fancy gear).

@Fradow

I would join a guild, but I already own a guild (Dasterapk) that I've been leading since last November.

My guild and I are working hard to get the most out of the recent Guild Hall update, but since there is only me and one other person who has T3 clearance, we're making slow progress. I try to find and recruit guildless T3 members, but I've only seen less than a handful of those mythical creatures. None of them wish to join, because they've chosen to play guildless, and every other T3 player in the game is in a guild, so I've nearly given up trying.

But alas, that's a different story for another time.

Thanks for showing kindness, I'll be sure to send a friend request to you guys.

Yeah, it's an undeniable fact that this game has lots of kids who'd be banned if OOO were to know of their age. One doesn't need to be a child to be immature though. I'm 14 and I generally stay away from those of my age. For this reason, as well as the fact that I can never trust the skill level people in PUGs, I choose to only run with friends and family. My guild, Shadow A D (previously Aeonic Doom), is filled with pretty mature and skilled players.

Running with the same people really often also has a great side to it: you get to know eachother's playing style and arsenal. In addition, you can also learn a thing or two about things you don't even have. After having played so much with a certain hipster, I can't imagine playing without bombing support. My weapons choice is also often based around what his is. Combuster and Electron Vortex makes a great combination in FSC.

Imagen de Wodanct
Wodanct

Yeah, the community in this game was much better during the first year it was released. Now it is nearly impossible to walk in Haven without receiving random friend request, trades, and sometimes some players feel the need to insult others in Haven just because they look "rich". I do pug FSCs frequently since I can usually carry parties if I'm not having random lag. I've been kicked from a FSC party once at D26 just because I wouldn't tab some person that can't even type english correctly that begged for a tab throughout the whole level. Jokes on them though since I can solo FSC and Vanaduke.

I'm not much for the bigger guilds anymore since they are usually infested with players that are elitist and think they are better than everyone else when they really aren't. The best kind of guild you can probably find is a small guild filled with mature players.

You are welcome to send me a friend request (Wodanct) and I'll try to help you along in KoA or t3 runs if I'm not busy or attending to other friends. And don't worry about making a huge guild hall. IMO people should focus more on making their guild hall feel like home instead of seeing how many expensive things they can buy and shove in it.

Processing Thoughts of You Always

I generally dislike tabbing PUGs right off the bat, since I find this inconsiderate behaviour. If someone runs out of mist halfway through a mission, then sure, I'm happy to give them the mist to finish off, but paying 50 mist just so someone can make another 8k off the KoA mission? Not happening.
Friends I can deal with, since I know that they are generally willing to repay the favour in some way and/or are appreciative, but if some random person asks me to tab them all the way down to Vanaduke, then that person is pretty much asking to get kicked.

I'm normally fairly generous, and I'm perfectly happy to give out free materials for crafting or a few spare crowns if someone needs it, or giving someone else an equipment drop in a party, but what I am not open to is full-scale begging.
And yeah, @OP, I understand your sentiment. The quality of English seems to be going consistently downhill... not to mention the community. There are still good people around, but quite a lot of them have left over the course of the year for various reasons (the RSS update, amongst others).

Also, apologies for being a mythical creature D;

I know how you feel.

Yeah, the SK community died at the start of the great Steam Wave. All the oldies were treated as inferior or free CE. I was part of the wave but at least I tried to help a little. Now I run a charity guild which, since we don't do KoA every four nanoseconds, rules out anyone halfway skilled. So we gather up nice people in the Rescue Camp, invite them... and raise our own free range T3 players! It works pretty well.

But yeah back on topic, add me (Shadowracer) I'll try and introduce you to some people who've escaped the automatic courtesy-removal beam clicking the Login button seems to fire at you.

There are some people here (such as Psychodestroyer and Asukalan) who keep immature people off the forums (by constructively critisizing what rubbish things the immature commnunity vomits up, resulting in the immature people crying on back to the game)

Oh the days of old, where have they gone?

I completely agree and this is something I've been thinking about for a while.
Back when I first started playing, spiralknights felt like one big family....one big mature family.
I'd log on and start getting greetings from my friends. Friends would exchange materials for free
though the receivers never expected the gift and the givers expected nothing in return. I would
join a party with my poor 3* gear and the other members would tell me not to worry......
I could go on and on about the times of old...

Now, in present time, I log on and my screen fills up with requests to join parties; not even a message
greeting me or requesting my help....just POOF.....I delete it and move on......POOF...it's back:/
People beg for free things now and those who give free things expect something in return.
I, too, have joined a party wearing proto as a costume which the leader responded to by kicking me.

I log on and check to see what friends are on.......I only recognize a 3rd of the names.....if that.

In short, this thread has made me want to restore my friends list to one of knights whom I enjoy
spending my time with.

If any of you feel the same, I'd love to get to know you.
Send me a friend request in game or I might send one to some of you here (Already know half of ya).
And, Laraso, incase you need a background check, these are some great knights <3

The beggars and grammatically/spelling challenged are everywhere, but it seems you're just getting bad luck with the a-holes.

The majority of the people I deal with are either dead silent or friendly. The only times I've ever gotten kicked from a party were for loading too slowly.

Yeah...I just returned from my 10 month break and...

I began playing SK around June 2011 and I have to say, the game has changed a lot community wise. I decided I would take a break around early January and I just got back about a week ago. Back then when I was still a newbie in 3* gear people would offer to help with JK runs and RT runs. But now, when I join a random party for FSC not only do I get kicked for my rank (not yet vanguard because there were no missions when I left) I get insulted afterwards in tell? I hope the SK community improves throughout the following months...I HOPE.
And is there anyone who is able to do FSC runs with me? ...only a handful of my friends who didn't quit are able to do FSC

I am back

I too have been experiencing these sort of occurences

I have been kicked for-

Not tabbing for going to haven (WTF)
Picking a Yellow crystal, instead of a Blue (The leader hates yellow color)
For being a "nerd" (good grammar & spelling)
Killing a wave of chromalisks without waiting for leader to finish loading.
For loading too slowly (Before the RT lag patch)
For not befriending and joining a certain guild. (I wont name or shame that guild)
For dying in Vanaduke boss battle
For landing the last shot on JK before he died.
For wearing Royal Jelly Mail for JK (Leader got insulted that I was "honouring" The fat jelly)
For not wanting to do 2 JK runs in a row. (I said that I was only going to do one in the lobby and I got kicked)

And many more........

When I joined back in.... August 2011 This was a MUCH better game with a maturity level of about 21 years,
now it is 15 years.

I just want to point out that

I just want to point out that I don't blame said party leader. I do fault him for his attitude and situation-handling, but his reasoning for disapproving of the "beggar" is wholly just, imo. You can't join a random party, announce that you can fund it yourself but that you just don't want to. Why should strangers pay your ce bill for you? Was he offering to give you his cr share of the run in return? I highly doubt it.

Anyhoo, on topic, it's not a problem with SK, it's a problem with humanity as a whole. The ratio gradually shifts, in no small part to the internets powers of "txtspk" and anonymity, and you do see it crop up more and more across all MMOs. There's really nothing that can be done about it other than try to keep yourself away from them.
The game has given increasing ability to cherry-pick your party and avoid random encounters and, this is one of the few reasons/situations in which that can be construed a good thing; utilise it, hang at the GH of your favourite people, do runs based on your friends list. The more you stick around people you like, the less you'll see this.

I honestly don't do random runs much, if ever, anymore, and this simply isn't an issue for me. Even in LD, I spend a lot of time around people I like because I talk to a fair number of them and have a heap listed. My ignore list is empty, and I never get bothered.

You already have me on your list; hit me up for a run sometime or come chill at our GH and you'll not have to worry about them anymores~

I have very similar experiences

Joining randoms are 100 times worse now than they were back then. So I join randoms in FSC and I get called names for entering the rocket puppy room ( the leader wanted to do all the rooms by himself). I told him that if he wanted to do all the rooms by himself he can just tell me beforehand but he doesn't listen and I get kicked from the party. And the rest of the story....Let's just leave out all the rest.

Anyway, I'll be more than happy to give you a hand on runs and stuff.

Yep

When I started back in early 2012, there was no Rhendon to carry you through the Chasm so you don't learn what to do, and there were less beggars, (accidentally friended a person who asked for 400ce for his 4 star certification. I gave it, then he asked for 400 more for his "sister" and then 800 for his Aegis. for that reason, I ignored and unfriended him. Also, he sounded approximately... say, 8 years old. And he kept going away from keyboard on Legion of Almire so I had to carry him through it.)
Also, I have observed that the ones who ask for crystal energy and crowns are either the ones A. with the recent proto armor, B. people wearing 2 star wolver, or C. 5 star squires. I also see some asking for 3 star and 4 star things, as well as people who refuse to crystal energy rev even if the whole team is dead, so I end up revving everyone. Also, I kept getting kicked for just uttering "brb", even for half a minute. I have noticed that the majority of players now is about, like 10 years old.
And, I hate the ones who keep wanting to be "leader". The most popular form of this is in Ironclaw Munitions Factory, Firestorm Citadel, and Lockdown. Also not to mention those who start playing Spiral Knights for the sole purpose of criticizing it! There are also some underequipped wimps who beg to be taken to Firestorm Citadel! There are the ones who wear proto, then beg crowns just to get free money, and stupid people who try to fight instead of revive his teammates. Thank you for your time.
Post Script: I do not use internet slang because I feel like it is wrong. Anyway, I would also like to give those who beg for Shadow Lair entry a not-so-honorable mention.

I also have to say one thing, age alone doesn't fully reflect on maturity. I introduced my friend to this game some time ago, and his younger brother (who is currently 10) started to play as well. We all did runs together and hung out in the ATH (while we could still kill one another in there with fire pots) and my friends brother was more mature than both of us combined.

Blame the leniency given to

Blame the leniency given to children nowadays. Education, despite being more advanced in knowledge, is a lot looser and messier in practice, especially with political correctness and over-attention to "child safety". I'm sure there's a nature vs nurture argument somewhere involved, but whatever the cause, children are just becoming shocking and, equally shocking, is that they're allowed to get away with it.

Although Light speaks the truth; maturity is, although often correctly gauged by age, not restricted to it. There are plenty of young and mature people and plenty of adults who would genuinely have you believe that they're prepubescent from their actions.

Illiterate people swarm the internet now after twitter, texts, and facebook came around (they were here before, just not as bad as it is now). If you ever need a friend who may or may not be slightly insane then you can add me, but I will normally not add someone who do not write a message or I have not played with. As you can see the community here is quite intelligent and generous to help out people, so it would be a great idea to add most of the people here as they will help you out, who knows, you might get a few new guild members. Not all beggars are bad though, some just want to trade mats for a few crowns, it is never a bad thing to help someone out when you have excess amount of mats.

I haven't been kicked from ANY party for like 2-3 months or so. I think even the bad players respect me because of my large prestige amount, nice look and skills.
But that doesn't protect me from beggers or random-frienders at the streets of haven, it just makes it more frequent.
I don't get much dislikers at PvE, but PvP and LD, those are what im most worried. No-one is safe from the LD-ragers (well except the ones that got 20k+ damage or so).
I'm called hammer noob (more precisely noob hammer...) in nearly every LD match
I'm disliked for using Snarby set as my helm&armor.

It seems like everyone should be skolver clone with at least GF, DA and BTB (and maybe Polaris), NOT to use Hammer and have 17k+ damage to avoid getting raged by LD- ragers

He wasn't begging. In fact, if I remember correctly, his message was something like this:

Sure....

Of -course- he wanted to save energy. Sorry, no, asking strangers to spend -their- CE for -your- adventure is, by definition, begging. Being polite and using proper grammar and so on... makes it respectful and polite begging, but it doesn't make it -not- begging. While I agree in general w.r.t. stupid reasons to kick and a downward spiral (... pun not intended but left alone... ) in the maturity of knights, it also isn't good to extend your kindness and sympathy to the point of pure gullibility. The beggar may have meant what they said, but still - NOBODY wants to waste CE, EVERYBODY has another item they want to craft. Energy is currency, asking for it to be given gratis is begging. I'd probably try to explain that before kicking if I was party leader, but I'd still kick if a player at the start of a run was insisting on being tabbed or not getting on the elevator and I would in general discourage tabbing strangers.

Also you can friend me if you want, I won't kick you for silly reasons. I also won't ask you to tab me. :o

Can you read? I clearly said he was looking for someone with spare mist energy. He never asked, not one time, for someone to spend their CE.

EDIT:

I don't blame player-illiteracy on anything but the players themselves. Facebook, text messaging, and all of those other services can be helpful, productive, and progressive, if used correctly.

I have access to all of the same things they do. The difference is that I choose to spell out my words correctly, while they just smash their face against the keyboard a couple of times and send the message.

Imagen de Psychodestroyer
Psychodestroyer

For relevance.

Also, I prefer to think there's a fine line between 'asking nicely' and 'begging'. Usually, the person 'asking' takes no for an answer, but is just asking for the sake of preference as opposed to the begger who's asking because they want the favour.

It's a subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless.

I got someone yesterday who sent me a trade request. I hid it and asked why. He told me he wanted 5999cr.

"Why do you need 5999cr?"

"I need it for something. Crafting."

"Why should I give you 5999cr?"

"Because I need it for crafting."

"I need a sammich. Gimme a sammich."

Spending your CE on a

Spending your CE on a stranger is no different than spending you ME on a stranger. He may not have deserved to be kicked, but the fact is that, polite or no, he was begging for strangers to supply his elevator bill for him with no reimbursement. To ask someone to spend their energy to tab him, and he would give them his share of the cr would be asking for a trade/purchase, but just simply asking them to give him energy is the very definition of begging.

ME isn't less valuable than CE at all. Even if I had spare ME, I could use it to craft, buy slots, tab friends/guildies. He's asking for "energy", whether it's mist or crystal is completely irrelevant.

To assume that ME is something that can be given or thrown away freely is to vastly underestimate the value of ME and an insult to any player who does know the value, as it can easily come across as trying to trick a player into giving up energy by making them think that it's less valuable and that they can afford to give it away.
